  • Support the development and review of risk assessments, safe systems of work, standard operating procedures and other operational controls, particularly where new plant, equipment or processes are introduced or existing operations change.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of safety controls associated with processing plant and operational activities, including machinery guarding, isolation and lock-off arrangements, workplace transport, pedestrian segregation, manual handling, hazardous substances, refrigerants, pressure systems and fire prevention measures.

  • Assist in maintaining appropriate emergency arrangements for the site, including fire safety, first aid, spill response and other foreseeable emergency scenarios associated with waste storage and processing activities.
  • Plan, coordinate and support internal and external audits, inspections and accreditation activities and assist with responses to findings, observations and improvement opportunities.
  • Support visits and inspections undertaken by regulatory authorities, certification bodies, customers and other external stakeholders, ensuring that required HSQE information and evidence is available.
  • Monitor HSQE performance, trends and key performance indicators, helping management to identify areas requiring improvement and supporting the development and completion of improvement actions.
  • Coordinate HSQE training requirements and deliver appropriate internal training, toolbox talks, inductions and safety communications, ensuring employees understand the hazards, controls and procedures relevant to their work.
  • Support the site's arrangements for PPE, including suitability, availability and correct use, and raise concerns where required standards are not being followed.
  • Maintain accurate HSQE records relating to inspections, audits, incidents, training, risk assessments, corrective actions, emergency arrangements and other compliance activities.
  • Work closely with operations, engineering and maintenance personnel to ensure that HSQE requirements are considered during maintenance, breakdowns, plant modifications and planned engineering activities.
  • Promote positive HSQE behaviours and employee engagement, encouraging the reporting of hazards, near misses, environmental concerns and improvement opportunities and supporting a culture where employees feel able to stop or challenge unsafe work.
  • Keep up to date with relevant health, safety, environmental and quality legislation, standards and industry good practice, escalating significant changes or compliance concerns to the HSQE Manager.
