Job Summary

As part of the Communications Department and under the direction of the Director of Communications, the Social Media Coordinator contributes to the success of the Clay County Social Media Strategy by professionally maintaining the County’s social media presence, creating and scheduling content and working to improve engagement via multiple social platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all social media content on multiple platforms including but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Creates and implements a regular publishing calendar of relevant, original, high-quality content accompanied by a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns to build brand awareness and foster audience engagement
  • Promotes content through social advertising, online advocacy and opens a stream for cross-promotions in an effort to develop and expand the County’s social community and/or influencer outreach efforts
  • Creating multi-media content for short and long form videos
  • Manages current content and content development by working with other departments, including relevant topic development, for social media sites reaching targeted audiences
  • Keeps a running list of necessary holidays and nationally recognized events to ensure promotion on the County’s social media pages
  • Monitors and responds to users in a timely and professional manner which promotes increased engagement and a positive impression of the County on multiple social media platforms
  • Oversees design of social media pages
  • Analyzes key metrics and tweaks strategy as needed; performs research on current benchmarks, trends and audience preferences
  • Works with staff to cover events and enhance the County’s photo library when needed
  • Evaluates new platforms and makes recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Adheres to the County’s brand standards to create professional, ADA compliant graphics for both print and digital needs
  • Helps monitor and answer the county’s web-based chatbot messages
  • Works with other departmental staff to approve and guide graphic design and implementation unique to departmental needs
  • In case of emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) this position is required to respond/perform emergency and recovery duties as assigned by the County Manager or designee
  • During an emergency or crisis situation, this position may be required to be present at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to provide assistance while activated
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Web Design or closely-related field
  • Two years of professional experience managing social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • One year of experience with government social media (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. (Preferred)
  • Proficiency in Canva
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Working Environment and Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 70% of the time.

The person in this position needs to be able to frequently move about inside the office to access files, personnel, office machinery, etc., and occasionally outdoors to facilitate photo/video shoots in all areas of the County’s operations.

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Occasionally ascends/descends natural inclines which may be steep to facilitate photos/videos in all areas of the County’s operations.

This position frequently communicates with management and other staff to facilitate content creation and management of social media. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Occasionally moves digital media equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. 

Occasionally works around moving machinery, busy roadways, and on construction sites to facilitate media production.

Position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments. The employee risks exposure to dust, extreme temperatures, high humidity, inclement weather, pollution, fumes, and unpleasant sounds and odors.
