Position Summary

The Director of Screenings position leads Sony Pictures' audience screening program for theatrical releases, overseeing the global planning, execution, and interpretation of test screenings. This role partners closely with filmmakers, production and marketing executives, research agencies, and senior studio leadership to ensure audience feedback is gathered with rigor and translated into actionable creative and marketing insights.

The Director will ensure screenings are operationally seamless, analytically sound, and executed with the professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion required to support high-profile motion picture releases. The position will require frequent travel, both domestically and internationally (although more domestically), in addition to a considerable amount of hands-on work outside of standard office hours – both early mornings and late evening, as well as weekends.

Role Focus

  • Audience Screenings: Lead end-to-end planning and execution of theatrical audience research screenings, including scheduling, logistics, audience recruitment, stakeholder coordination, and day-of operations.

  • Research Insights: Translate qualitative audience feedback into clear executive readouts that help filmmakers and studio leadership evaluate creative opportunities, campaign positioning, and audience response.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the studio's audience screening calendar across multiple film productions.

  • Partner with external research agencies to recruit representative audiences and execute screenings.

  • Coordinate closely with Production, Marketing, Creative Strategy & Research, and filmmakers throughout the screening lifecycle.

  • Oversee all screening logistics, communications, venue readiness, attendee management, and operational execution.

  • Serve as the primary operational lead during screenings, resolving issues quickly while maintaining a seamless experience.

  • Review audience research findings and synthesize key themes, insights, and recommendations.

  • Prepare executive presentations and screening summaries for filmmakers and senior leadership.

  • Present screening results objectively while facilitating productive creative discussions.

  • Manage relationships with research vendors and ensure consistent operational standards across screenings.

  • Continuously improve screening processes, reporting, and operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in audience research, consumer insights, entertainment research, or related field.

  • Strong project management experience coordinating complex cross-functional initiatives.

  • Experience working with external research agencies, vendors, and multiple internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and executive-facing skills.

  • Ability to synthesize qualitative audience feedback into balanced, actionable insights.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile creative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting theatrical test screenings or film development.

  • Experience working directly with filmmakers, producers, and senior studio executives.

  • Experience developing executive presentations and audience research readouts.
