This takes hard work and innovation, and we need more like-minded people on our team.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Director, Employee Relations to join our team. In this role, you will establish and lead Element’s global employee relations strategy, governance framework, workplace investigations program, and employee conduct oversight processes. You will serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on employee relations, workplace investigations, policy governance, and employment risk management, partnering closely with HR Business Partners, Legal, Compliance, and business leaders to foster a high-performance culture while mitigating legal and reputational risk.

What You’ll Do

  • Establish governance frameworks, policies, standards, and processes that promote fair, consistent, and legally compliant employee practices.
  • Lead ongoing review and enhancement of employee policies, codes of conduct, workplace standards, and governance controls.
  • Lead complex and high-risk employee relations matters including misconduct allegations, harassment complaints, discrimination claims, retaliation concerns, ethics investigations, and executive-level cases.
  • Ensure investigations are conducted consistently, objectively, and in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as trusted advisor to senior leaders, HR Business Partners, and people leaders on sensitive employee matters.
  • Provide expert guidance on performance management, employee conduct, workplace conflict, organizational change, and policy interpretation.
  • Monitor employment law developments across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Lead and develop the Manager, Employee Relations & HR Governance.
  • Develop metrics, dashboards, and reporting to identify trends, risks, and opportunities related to employee relations matters.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Employment Law, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant focus on employee relations, workplace investigations, and employment law.
  • Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience managing HR or Employee Relations professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise employee relations strategies and governance programs.
  • Extensive experience conducting and overseeing complex workplace investigations.
  • Experience partnering with executive leaders on high-risk employee matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Employment Relations, Business Administration, or Juris Doctor (JD).
  • CHRL, CHRE, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent professional designation.
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations across North America.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience within highly regulated, publicly traded, financial services, fleet management, transportation, or professional services environments.
