General Labourer

*This position is located in Hope River, PEI*

Job Description Summary
The General Labourer position is responsible for safely and efficiently performing a variety of general labor related duties at the landfill. Responsibilities may include yard clean-up, fueling vehicles and equipment, assisting the Equipment Operator, general vehicle operation, office maintenance, and other related tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist and perform duties as requested by the Equipment Operator.
• Fuel vehicles and equipment.
• Clean-up work areas.
• Perform yard work, including mowing and litter pickup.
• Work in accordance with company, federal, state/provincial, and local safety policies and procedures.
• Perform general office maintenance and repairs, including painting and janitorial tasks.
• Direct traffic at the site as necessary.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid Driver’s license
• Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions in accordance with company standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

• Ability to read, write, perform basic math, and communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow instructions and perform duties under limited supervision.
• Ability to apply common-sense reasoning to solve general problems.

Physical and Mental Demands 

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift in an outdoor environment up to 90% of the time.
• Must be able to use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
• Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to manually lift/move up to 65 pounds regularly.
• Ability to manually push/move up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Working Conditions 

• Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rain, extreme heat or cold, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
• Work is primarily outdoors (up to 100% of the time).
• Constant exposure to motor vehicle traffic conditions.
• The work environment is typically loud.
