Description
FI Financial Crime Prevention Specialist / Scale 16 (10) / Amsterdam based
The role
Within WB FCP FI, we are looking for an FI Financial Crime Prevention Specialist to help strengthen and scale ING’s financial crime prevention capabilities for Financial Institutions. The role focuses on high-risk FI client segments, with particular emphasis on Correspondent Banking, Payment Service Providers, Electronic Money Institutions and Crypto Asset Service Providers. You will contribute to a more data-driven, risk-based and operationally effective control environment that supports ING’s ability to grow safely and securely.
This is a specialist role for someone who enjoys combining regulatory insight, data-driven portfolio oversight and practical process improvement. You will help translate external developments, internal policy requirements, portfolio signals and transaction insights into controls and interventions that are targeted, explainable and sustainable. The role is particularly relevant as FCP continues to move towards more risk-based, event-driven and digitally enabled ways of working.
Your working environment
You will be part of WB FCP FI, within Wholesale Banking Financial Crime Prevention. WB FCP FI plays a key role in strengthening ING’s financial crime risk management for high-risk FI client segments and contributes to the wider COO Global FCFP agenda by translating strategy into practical controls, portfolio insights and targeted interventions. Your scope of work will involve close collaboration with WB FCP, FI Sector, Compliance/MLRO, Network Management, Quality Assurance, CDD Operations, Front Office, Product and Relationship Management teams.
The role is Amsterdam based and sits in an international environment with close collaboration across countries and functions. ING works in hybrid mode, meaning teams make conscious choices about when and why they come together in the office, balancing individual needs with team and business goals.
Your responsibilities
Specifically, you have the following key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain portfolio insights for FI client segments, using data analytics and management information to identify trends, risk indicators and areas requiring follow-up.
- Support oversight of Correspondent Banking, PSP, EMI and CASP clients, including the identification of higher-risk typologies, trigger events and portfolio developments.
- Translate regulatory, market and internal policy developments into practical implications for FI portfolio management, FCP controls and enhanced due diligence.
- Contribute to the design and improvement of processes for PSP and Correspondent Banking controls, including KYC calls, EDD measures, transaction flow analysis, expected transactional profiles and trigger event monitoring.
- Support the identification, monitoring and escalation of downstreaming (nesting) and payment-chain risks where FI clients use ING infrastructure to process third-party flows.
- Work with Transaction Monitoring teams, data specialists and change teams to improve the use of transaction insights, dashboards, automation and monitoring outcomes in FI portfolio oversight, while maintaining appropriate human judgement for sensitive risk decisions.
- Prepare clear analysis, recommendations and management information for relevant governance forums and senior stakeholders.
- Support the operationalisation of change by translating new guidance, tooling, data capabilities and governance decisions into practical ways of working for FI client segments.
- Engage with Front Office, Product, Compliance/MLRO, TM and CDD Operations and regional stakeholders to ensure practical, consistent and risk-based implementation of FI FCP requirements.
- Support client-facing discussions where specialist input is required, for example in relation to PSP, Correspondent Banking or complex payment flow topics.
- Take ownership of defined workstreams or projects, ensuring that analysis is translated into concrete actions, decisions and sustainable improvements.
How to succeed
We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you stay curious, keep learning and take responsibility. In return, we will support you in developing into an even stronger specialist in financial crime prevention. You will be successful in this role if you have:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in KYC, Financial Crime Prevention, Transaction Monitoring, investigations, compliance, risk management, Wholesale Banking or a related field.
- Strong understanding of financial crime risks in Financial Institutions, preferably including Correspondent Banking, PSPs, EMIs, CASPs, payment flows or agent networks.
- The ability to combine regulatory understanding with practical process design and implementation.
- Experience with data analysis, management information, dashboards or portfolio monitoring, and the ability to translate data into clear risk insights.
- The ability to simplify complex topics, create clarity on roles and actions, and help teams move from analysis to execution.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgement, with the ability to work through complex topics and bring them back to clear conclusions and actions.
- Good stakeholder management skills, including the ability to work across Front Office, operations, compliance, risk, data and international teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to produce clear, structured and decision-ready material.
- A proactive mindset, ownership mentality and behaviour that reflects ING’s Orange Code: you act with integrity, take it on and make it happen, help others to be successful and stay a step ahead.
What we offer
A role in a strategically important and internationally connected area of Wholesale Banking, where financial crime prevention, data, client knowledge, payment expertise and operational transformation come together. You will contribute to work that is directly relevant to ING’s gatekeeper role and to the wider ambition to make FCP more risk-based, data-driven, scalable and effective.
You will collaborate with experienced colleagues across countries, functions and lines of defence. ING offers a hybrid way of working, with flexibility to balance individual needs, team collaboration and business priorities, and an informal and inclusive working environment where different perspectives are valued.
