Job Description
The Construction Contracting Manager is a senior subject matter expert responsible for providing contracting and procurement guidance across X-energy's Project and Program Management and Business Services organizations, with particular emphasis on construction, design, and capital-project contracting supporting the Company's advanced nuclear fuel and reactor deployment programs. This role works across project management, business services, legal, and finance teams to help ensure contracting strategies, documentation, and vendor agreements are structured to support project timelines, cost objectives, and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements. The Consultant, Construction Contracting serves as the senior contracting authority for high-value construction and design-services agreements, providing expert guidance on contract structuring, risk allocation, and negotiation strategy; resolving complex contracting issues; and generating and reviewing contracting documentation with considerable latitude for independent judgment. This individual is also called upon to support special projects and initiatives as assigned, drawing on deep contracting expertise to help the organization navigate novel or high-visibility procurement challenges.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Serve as the senior Subject Matter Expert consultant to Project and Program Management and/or Business Services, applying deep contracting and procurement expertise to provide guidance, resolve complex problems, and generate and review contracting documentation for construction, design, and capital-project agreements.
- Advise project teams and business leaders on contract structuring, risk allocation, pricing methodology, and negotiation strategy for construction and design-services agreements, including contracts exceeding $1 billion in value.
- Lead resolution of complex contracting and procurement issues, identifying root causes and coordinating with legal, finance, and technical stakeholders to reach effective, well-documented resolutions.
- Evaluate contractor and vendor proposals for construction and design services, assessing technical adequacy, commercial terms, and compliance with applicable contracting standards and, where relevant, federal contracting requirements.
- Support development and refinement of contracting standards, templates, and best practices for construction and design-services procurement across the organization.
- Partner with Project and Program Management and Business Services leadership to structure procurement strategies that support project timelines, budget objectives, and risk-management goals.
- Track significant contracting actions and open items to closure, coordinating across organizational boundaries to keep procurement activities on schedule.
- Provide guidance on rigorous contracting standards and compliance, monitoring adherence to internal policy and applicable federal contracting regulations where relevant.
- Mentor and provide informal guidance to less experienced contracting and project staff on construction and design-services contracting best practices.
- Support execution of special projects and initiatives as requested, applying contracting expertise to help resolve novel or high-visibility procurement challenges.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Acquisitions and Procurement or equivalent, Master's degree preferred.
- Greater than fifteen years' experience in contracting, purchasing design and/or construction services; minimum of 5 years construction specific.
- Experience managing/administering contracts with value >$1B.
- Expert knowledge of industry best practices.
- Experience with rigorous contracting standards and compliance; knowledge of federal contracting requirements a plus.
