Description
Workshop Team Leader and Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
Kulnura Transport Workshop
(Central Coast and Newcastle)
Lead the Team. Shape the Workshop. Drive Continuous Improvement
Are you an experienced Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic looking for more than just another workshop role?
At Heidelberg Materials, we're looking for a hands-on leader who wants to influence how our workshop operates—not just repair trucks. This is an opportunity to build leadership capability, mentor others, improve fleet performance and play a key role in one of NSW's largest transport operations.
You'll lead the day-to-day mechanical function of our Kulnura Workshop and surrounding Central Coast/Newcastle areas, supporting a modern fleet of heavy vehicles while developing the systems, people and processes that keep our business moving.
If you're ready to step beyond the tools and broaden your leadership experience, we'd like to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Lead Mechanic, you'll balance hands-on technical work with leadership and planning responsibilities, including:
Leading and coordinating the inspection, diagnosis and repair of heavy vehicles and associated equipment
Planning and managing preventative maintenance programs to maximise fleet availability and reliability
Coaching, mentoring and developing mechanics to build capability across the workshop
Driving a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all legislative and company standards
Improving workshop systems, maintenance processes and equipment reliability through continuous improvement initiatives
Coordinating external contractors and suppliers while managing workshop priorities
Working closely with operations and transport leaders to minimise downtime and support business performance
Maintaining accurate maintenance records and supporting workshop planning and reporting
Providing technical leadership during breakdowns and critical fleet issues
What We're Looking For
You'll bring:
Trade qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience within a heavy vehicle workshop
Strong diagnostic capability across modern diesel engines, hydraulics and electronic systems
A proactive mindset with a passion for developing people and improving the way work is done
Excellent communication and planning skills
HC driver's licence (desirable)
Experience with Mack and Volvo fleets (advantageous)
What we offer:
Full-time permanent position
Regular overtime opportunities available
Negotiable hourly rate, pending on your skills, experience and leadership capability
Pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening required
Current driver's licence required
We are committed to building an inclusive workplace and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.
Why Join Heidelberg Materials?
This role offers far more than a traditional mechanic position. You'll have the opportunity to:
Develop your leadership skills while continuing to apply your technical expertise
Influence workshop performance and contribute to long-term fleet reliability
Mentor the next generation of mechanics
Be part of a supportive leadership team that values continuous improvement and innovation
Build experience that can open pathways into broader maintenance, transport and operational leadership roles across Heidelberg Materials.
