Job Summary:

The Assistant Recreation Manager supports the daily operation of park-wide recreation programs by assisting with staff hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision. This role helps coordinate activities and events, maintains program records and equipment, supports administrative and budget functions, and works closely with staff and management to ensure successful program operations and a positive employee experience.

 

The Details:Position Type: SeasonalSeason Dates: Mid November 2026 - November 2027Pay: $1,828.00/Bi-weeklySchedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, hire and place qualified personnel in appropriate roles based on skills and availability. Prepare staff for their positions through clear communication and provide necessary information before arrival.
  • Assist manager in developing and implementing comprehensive staff training covering all aspects of the program. Ensure all staff training requirements are completed and promote ongoing learning throughout the season. Identify areas where additional training is needed, address gaps and create development plans for staff.
  • Oversee the inventory and maintenance of supplies, equipment and facilities. Assist manager in purchasing supplies and equipment needed. Evaluate the upkeep of athletic and recreation facilities. Conduct or coordinate maintenance.
  • Maintain open communication daily with location staff, program managers, concessioners’ management, and the YCERP committee.
  • Ensure all paperwork, reports, and evaluations are submitted and processed on time. This includes approving payroll, managing participation data, updating Clover systems, submitting vehicle inspection reports, etc.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing the comprehensive Park-wide Program Activities. This includes but is not limited to the hiring or appointing of qualified officials and executing the various games and tournaments of athletic programs, creating online voting systems and display for photo contests, organizing logistics for employee talent shows, etc. Design and proof all advertisement materials for seasonal and week-to-week programming. Compile statistical data to refine future program offerings.
  • Revise and approve staff schedules for park activities and trips, ensuring all needs are covered. Manage bookings for external trips.
  • Adhere to the program procedures, philosophies and goals. Ensures staff understands and feels comfortable with all program policies and the goals of the program are achieved. Provide guidance to staff, resolve conflicts, conduct performance reviews. Build a positive work environment by addressing staff needs and promoting career development opportunities.
  • Assist manager in financial decisions, program budget planning, and purchasing. Begin to learn financial operations.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Parkwide Employee Recreation Manager.

Qualifications

  • Earned or working toward a university degree, preferably in a field related to recreation.
  • Experience managing or supervising staff in a professional setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Established leadership and organization skills.
  • At least 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Good driving record.
  • Must meet all DOT physical requirements and pass a DOT medical exam for commercial driver fitness determination.
  • Ability to safely drive a 15-passenger van for extended periods of time.
  • Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Windows programs: Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of organizing and implementing programs.
  • Flexibility with working conditions, schedules and facilities.
  • Willingness and ability to learn about Yellowstone's natural environment and share this knowledge.
  • Ability to work outdoors, sometimes under inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to hike moderate distances outdoors, up and downhill, in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Outgoing and people oriented.
  • Willing to work hard when needed, and to do what it takes to get the job done.

Physical Requirements include:

  • Must meet all physical requirements to pass a DOT medical exam for commercial driver fitness determination.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to lead back-country hikes of up to 10 miles at a speed of no less than 2 miles per hour at altitudes of 5,000 feet to 10,000 feet.
  • Able to drive loaded 15-passenger van for up to twelve (12) hours per day.
  • Working with required chemicals
