SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the manager of Payroll, performs a variety of payroll duties to support the activities of the department.Duties include customer service, preparation of confidential and sensitive correspondence, maintenance of records and files.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for transaction, administrative and process activities in line with agreed service levels and department standard.
Process wage statements for federal, state, and outside agencies within required standards and timeline. Under general supervision of manager, provide requested employee wage information in response to subpoenas.
Support payroll’s Employee Self Service application. Review and approve W4s, direct deposit changes and employee deduction requests. Communicate directly with new employees to ensure they are aware of the direct deposit and paperless program.
Run audit reports for analysts and assist with auditing process as needed.
Process various payments, based on established schedule, to various outside agencies and customers.
Coordinate with Brown University Health’s finance department the monthly processing of stale dated, and uncashed paychecks checks (escheat process).
Maintain payroll files, purging files and coordinating file storage with external vendor.
Work is performed under general supervision with some independent judgment exercised in determining work priorities and methods.
Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Knowledge:
High school degree or equivalent is required
Payroll knowledge is required.
Basic to Intermediate skills using Microsoft office suite including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Must be able to process material of a sensitive and confidential nature.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Ability to navigate through multiple computer applications.
Ability to multi-task in a high-volume setting.
Ability to maintain a positive attitude with a focus on the employee experience.
Experience:
No payroll experience required, although preferred
Work environment andphysical requirements:
Work is performed in a typical office environment requiring sitting, standing, and walking.
Supervisory responsibility:
None.
Pay Range:
$18.13-$29.90
