About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Health, Safety and Emergency Services (HSES) to help deliver a safe, healthy and operationally ready workplace.

Reporting to the Manager Safety & Performance, and working on a 5/2/4/3 roster pattern, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of Health, Safety, Hygiene and Emergency Services professionals, providing coaching, technical guidance and operational support across the site.

This is an excellent opportunity for a leader who enjoys partnering with operational teams, driving continuous improvement and influencing safety, health and emergency management outcomes across a complex operational environment.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Manager Safety & Performance and working within the Health, Safety and Emergency Services function, you will be:

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary HSES team, fostering a strong safety culture and building capability across health, safety, hygiene and emergency services disciplines.
• Partner with operational leaders to implement health, safety and emergency management programs that support compliance, operational readiness and workforce wellbeing.
• Provide technical guidance and assurance on health, safety, hygiene and emergency response standards, systems and legislative requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen risk management, incident prevention and health and safety performance outcomes.
• Lead emergency management preparedness activities, including capability development, training, governance and response readiness.
• Monitor performance through assurance activities, audits, inspections and operational reporting, identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Support incident investigations, corrective action management and risk reduction initiatives to improve organisational learning.
• Build effective relationships with regulators, contractors, emergency services personnel and operational stakeholders to deliver successful HSES outcomes.

Required for Success

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Demonstrated experience leading health, safety, emergency management, engineering or operational teams within mining, heavy industry or another safety-critical environment.
• Experience implementing and managing health, safety and risk management programs that support operational compliance and continuous improvement.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and emergency management legislation, standards and assurance processes.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coaching leaders and influencing outcomes across multiple stakeholder groups.
• A tertiary qualification in health, safety, engineering, emergency management, human factors or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Helpful for Success

• Experience supporting site emergency response teams and emergency preparedness programs.
• Experience leading incident investigations, assurance programs and organisational risk management initiatives.
• Exposure to operational environments with complex stakeholder groups, regulatory engagement and performance reporting requirements.

Where you'll be working

Located approximately 95km northwest of Newman in the East Pilbara, Yandicoogina is one of Australia's highest-producing iron ore mines. The site produces unique Hamersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines and operates a fleet of autonomous haul trucks and drills, supporting efficient and safe operations.   

Yandicoogina  is  recognised for its strong culture of teamwork, safety, and innovation, with a pioneering spirit. The mine supports a fly-in fly-out workforce from multiple regional hubs, including Perth, Busselton, and Derby - enhancing accessibility and community engagement across Western Australia.
