What’s the role

The Asset Integrity Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effectiveness of the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management system to minimize process safety and reliability risks at Scotford. The role focuses on static equipment, inspection, corrosion, materials, and civil engineering, while providing technical leadership across these disciplines. This includes implementing programs that maintain equipment integrity and reliability, as well as guiding subject matter experts in inspection, corrosion and materials, static equipment, and civil engineering to support safe, efficient, and profitable operations. In addition, the position upholds technical competency within these engineering communities and delivers project discipline support in both static and civil areas.

Beyond operational oversight, the role contributes strategic mechanical and civil engineering support across Scotford’s key production assets, including the Upgrader, Refinery, and Chemicals units. It plays a critical role in shaping mid- to long-term investment decisions by influencing both capital and operational expenditures related to static and civil assets. Acting as the gatekeeper for strategic funding through the SEAM process, the Asset Integrity Manager coordinates closely with the PET leadership team to manage demand and prioritize work. The position also leads a team of 9–14 engineers and contractors, manages the OPEX budget to ensure financial alignment, supports informed capital portfolio decisions through technical guidance, and maintains regulatory compliance through engagement with the Alberta Boiler Safety Authority.

What you’ll be doing

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage the technical staff which consist of Static, Civil, Corrosion, Materials, and Inspection site subject matter expertise.

  • Departmental accountability for the integrity of pressure equipment, piping, tanks, boilers, heaters, and pipelines at Scotford Upgrader, Scotford Refinery, and Scotford Chemicals.

  • Mechanical team provides mid-term and long-term strategic engineering technical support for static and civil assets.

  • Owns Pressure Equipment Integrity Management process and provides assurance for compliance with governmental (Alberta Boiler Safety Authority) and corporate requirements, assuring industry standards and best practices are appropriately addressed.

  • Management representative which owns the Pressure Equipment Integrity Management System (PEIMS) for static and civil assets.

  • Ensures the asset integrity elements of MAC process are delivered.

  • Collaborate with other Department Managers to resolve issues related to work process integration, cross department interfaces, and timelines.

  • Oversight of competence and development of all static, corrosion, materials, and civil engineering staff including training plans, performance evaluations, coaching for continuous improvement, and fostering career development.

  • Manage ownership of equipment care strategies for static and civil equipment.

  • Ensures health of equipment cares strategies for equipment associated with accountable disciplines including RCM revalidation are completed when needed.

What you bring

  • Strong knowledge of Upgrading, Refining or Chemical facilities.

  • Skill in pressure equipment integrity management, inspection practices, corrosion mechanisms, metallurgy, pressure vessel design, and materials engineering.

  • Registration or eligible for registration with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (P. Eng or P.L. Eng).

  • Extensive experience in manufacturing experience along with experience in Pressure Equipment Engineering and/or Inspection at a manufacturing facility.

  • Strong leadership experience and skill to manage conflicting priorities and working with multiple disciplines and managing interfaces.

  • Requires strong knowledge of the MAC EI Work Process as well as pressure equipment design, corrosion mechanisms, codes & standards, inspection techniques, welding, metallurgy, and process safety.

  • Familiarity with codes and standards governing pressure equipment, piping, boilers, tanks, and pipelines, and be able to interpret the relevant regulatory requirements to ensure compliance by the site.

  • This role is expected to become a qualified member of the site Incident Command team.

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for any employer other than their current employer.
