Facility Director (10817, 13432, 13485, Grade 24)

The Northern Recreation and Leisure Services Division of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is seeking three experienced and highly motivated Facility Directors to lead the day-to-day operations of dynamic community recreation facilities.

The vacancies are located at Berwyn Heights Community Center, Largo/Kettering/Perrywood Community Center, and South Bowie Community Center.

Facility Directors provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of facility operations, including supervising full-time and part-time staff; coordinating programs and facility rentals; overseeing facility maintenance, security, equipment, and improvements; managing expenditures, revenues, cash handling, and budgets; leading marketing and community outreach efforts; and developing and implementing effective operating procedures.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong leadership, sound fiscal and operational management, excellent customer service, and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, patrons, and the surrounding community.

Salary Information:
The advertised salary range represents the position’s overall earning potential. The budgeted hiring range for these vacancies is $65,465–$90,704, based on qualifications and experience.

• Manage community center.  Establish, recommends and monitor operating procedures (i.e. hours, building maintenance and repairs).
• Respond to questions, complaints, and inquiries from patrons
• Creates a comprehensive programming plan of classes, activities and special events to serve the area.  This includes creating, developing, implementing, marketing, and evaluating.
• Meet with citizens, community groups, schools and associations within service area.
• Review, approve, and prepare rental requests/agreements.

• Supervise career, intermittent, volunteer, and contracted employees.
• Recruit, interview, select, and train intermittent staff for the community center and programs
• Complete, at minimum, an annual performance evaluation for intermittent and career (if applicable) staff
• Counsel and discipline employees as needed
• Plan, schedule, and assign work.  Approve timecards and leave request for intermittent and career staff.

• Monitor and track facility revenues and expenditures within approved budget for the community center assigned.
• Serve as petty cash fund custodian (if applicable)
• Initiates purchase card request, purchase requisitions, and check request for the purchase of equipment and supplies for facility operations and program needs
• Manage and maintain cash reports and asset inventory

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Facility Management, Recreation Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field.
2. Two (2) years of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, equestrian, tennis, aquatics, gymnastics, ice rinks); including one (1) year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor.
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
4. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position.
5. Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics).
