Position Summary

UKG is seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Tax Analyst to join the Payment Services Tax Team. This role is responsible for supporting tax filing, amendments, reconciliations, and notice resolution activities to ensure accurate and timely payroll tax compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.

The Tax Data Filing I role focuses on executing tax filings, processing amendments, reconciling tax liabilities, and supporting client inquiries. The position requires strong attention to detail, ability to manage deadlines, and foundational knowledge of payroll tax compliance.

What You’ll Do

Tax Filing & Amendment Processing

  • Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax returns using tax filing systems (e.g., Master Tax) in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Assist in processing tax amendments, including reviewing client requests and generating corrected returns.
  • Support electronic filings and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements.
  • Prepare and submit agency registrations, EFT setups, and reporting agent authorizations.

Reconciliation & Tax Balancing

  • Perform daily, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of tax liabilities between payroll systems and tax filing systems.
  • Identify and resolve out-of-balance conditions between payroll data, filings, and payments.
  • Analyze tax variances and prepare supporting documentation for client communication.
  • Support onboarding activities by reconciling new client balances and validating historical data.

Tax Notice & Issue Resolution

  • Research and respond to payroll tax notices submitted by clients.
  • Communicate with tax agencies and internal teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in resolving issues related to filings, payments, and account setup.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior team members as needed.

Case Management & Client Support

  • Manage and update cases in Salesforce, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication.
  • Respond to client and internal inquiries related to tax filings, amendments, and notices.
  • Provide support to internal business units on payroll tax-related questions.

Systems, Tools & Process Support

  • Utilize systems such as MasterTax, Salesforce, UKG platforms, and agency portals to perform job functions.
  • Support testing of system enhancements and new releases.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll tax rules and compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Finance, or related field

OR equivalent work experience

Experience

  • 3–4 years of experience in payroll, tax filing, or compliance-related roles
  • Basic understanding of U.S. payroll tax concepts (Federal, State, Local)
  • Exposure to multi-state tax filing or payroll processing preferred
  • Experience with tax filing systems (e.g., MasterTax) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of U.S. payroll tax filing or amendment experience
  • Familiarity with agency portals and tax filing platforms
  • Experience with Salesforce, MasterTax, or UKG systems
  • CPP/FPC certification (or working towards it)
