Advisor Project Delivery - FIFO

• Based out of Dampier on a FIFO roster, work across coastal and inland locations to support the safe integration of rail projects and operational changes across Rio Tinto’s integrated Pilbara rail network.

• Lead defined project integration work packages and support Project Leads on larger and more complex projects.

• Help ensure projects deliver new and changed assets, systems and ways of working that are ready to be safely operated, maintained and sustained through strong governance, risk and change management, stakeholder integration, assurance, commissioning and handover.

About the role

We are looking for a site-based Advisor Project Delivery to support the safe and effective delivery of rail projects and the associated operational changes into the business. Depending on project complexity, you will independently plan and deliver defined project integration work packages, or work with Project Leads to coordinate rail project deliverables and outcomes across broader projects. The successful applicant will work a 5:2 - 4:3 roster.

You will connect project teams with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, business systems, capability teams and contractors to make sure operational impacts are understood, project requirements are planned and evidenced, and assets and changes are prepared for commissioning, handover and sustainable operation. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working across organisational boundaries, bringing structure to complex change and turning project outputs into practical operational outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

• Scope, plan and deliver assigned project integration work packages, with accountability matched to project complexity and agreed governance.

• Develop and maintain fit-for-purpose project plans, schedules, deliverables registers, interface actions, commissioning and readiness criteria and supporting evidence aligned with project milestones.

• Coordinate interfaces between Project Delivery, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, business systems, capability teams, asset owners and contractors; clarify dependencies, roles, boundaries and required inputs.

• Support Management of Change and change impact activities by identifying impacts to people, processes, assets, systems and operational arrangements, and coordinating agreed actions with accountable stakeholders.

• Contribute to operational risk and project readiness assessments, hazard reviews and assurance activities; track actions, controls, evidence and residual issues to closure or formal acceptance by the appropriate accountable authority.

• Represent operational and maintenance requirements in design reviews, user requirement development, testing and commissioning planning, and other project assurance forums.

• Coordinate project and operational documentation updates for procedures, work instructions, training and competency, asset management plans, maintenance strategies, spares, tools, asset information, business systems, support arrangements and operational communications.

• Support the planning and execution of project site integration, operational trials, testing and commissioning activities, including contractor mobilisation and field coordination where required.

• Prepare project status reporting and escalate emerging risks, interface gaps, constraints and decisions required to Project Leads and relevant operational leaders.

• Coordinate commissioning and handover readiness, including acceptance evidence, handover documentation, punch-list status, transfer of residual risks, support arrangements and transition to business-as-usual.

• Complete project assurance, lessons learned and close-out activities, and use findings to improve team tools, standards and ways of working.

• Coach stakeholders and project teams in Rio Tinto Rail project delivery, governance and Contractor Management System requirements.

• Monitor project schedule, cost and contractor variations for assigned work packages and support timely resolution with the relevant Project Lead or accountable owner.

Required for success

• A commitment to the safety of yourself, your team and everyone else at work.

• Demonstrated experience in change management, project integration or delivery within rail, mining, infrastructure, construction or another complex industrial environment.

• Experience independently delivering defined change / project work packages and supporting larger projects involving multiple functions, contractors and changing priorities.

• Working knowledge of project lifecycles and the activities required to transition new or changed assets, systems or processes into operation.

• Experience coordinating stakeholders and interfaces across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, project teams and contractors.

• Practical experience in one or more of the following: Project planning and governance; Management of Change or change impact assessment; design review; risk assessment; asset management; testing and commissioning; handover and close-out; or project assurance.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn technical and operational inputs into clear plans, actions, reports and decision-ready information.

• A diploma or tertiary qualification in business management, project management or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• A current Western Australian C Class manual driver’s licence.
   

Helpful for success

• Experience with engineering and operational design, risk management and acceptance, project delivery gates, handover evidence, punch-list management and transition to business-as-usual.

• Experience developing or reviewing project plans, change management proposals, interface plans, risk and action registers, procedures, training requirements or testing and commissioning documentation.

• Experience using SAP, Microsoft Office and project information or action-tracking systems to manage readiness information and reporting.

• Experience reviewing contractor claims, costs, schedules and variations for assigned work packages.

• Experience coaching stakeholders, contractors or project teams in systems, processes, governance and compliance requirements.

Where you’ll be working
 

Our integrated operations, which include port facilities, ensure we can supply the right quality product to our customers when they need it. We blend our products at our own ports, which allows us to produce a reliable and consistent product. Because we have dedicated shipping operations, we are able to better control the delivery of product to our customers.
 

We operate four independent shipping terminals at two locations, Cape Lambert and Dampier, managed as a single port system. Dampier has terminals at Parker Point and East Intercourse Island, loading approximately three ships per day.
