Description
Join the Chatham County Public Defender’s Office as a Legal Secretary II and put your legal administrative expertise to work supporting trial teams and serving clients. This position is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion in a fast-paced environment.
- Perform administrative and legal secretarial support functions for multiple trial teams.
- Utilize excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills as you help with walk-in applications for the office, generate and track medical records requests for all teams within the office, and assist with social worker assignments.
- Provide back-up assistance for the indigency verification admin by processing daily applications over the phone with clients currently incarcerated.
- Perform work that requires comprehensive knowledge of all functions and activities of the office environment.
- Perform duties that require considerable initiative, independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality, often in stressful situations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED, and
- At least two (2) years of experience performing various legal administrative assistance, legal secretarial, or related duties; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
- Must be able to type a minimum of 25 words per minute. Clerical testing will be conducted during the interview process for selected candidates.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Legal and/or court experience.
- Post-secondary education in a legal field.
