Marshfield Medical Center is seeking a BC/BE fellowship-trained Pediatric Intensivist to join its well-established team in Marshfield, Wisconsin. You will provide initial and ongoing care of pediatric patients needing intensive care services which are provided in our adjoining Marshfield Children’s Hospital. The Pediatric Intensivists cover the unit 24/7 along with providing sedation services to pediatric patients undergoing clinic and hospital procedures. Call is shared among the team (1:5) and are not in house at night. There are approximately 450 PICU admissions per year with an average midnight census of 4.61. The team consists of four other Pediatric Intensivists in the 40-member Department of Pediatrics which includes all pediatric subspecialties. Current fellows welcome to apply!

Marshfield Children's Hospital
Our 56-bed Children's Hospital is Central Wisconsin's only accredited pediatric hospital, and one of only four in Wisconsin. It is equipped with the latest technology, more than 40 pediatric specialties and board-certified pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, and neonatologists. Certified child life specialists ensure children receive the emotional support they may need to cope with their treatment during their hospital stay. The hospital has a 24-bed level 3 NICU with 24/7 neonatology support and a normal newborn nursery; an 8-bed PICU with 24/7 pediatric intensivist support including sedation services; 26-bed pediatric acute beds including 8 bed Heme-Onc positive pressure rooms and 24/7 pediatric hospitalist support. Marshfield Children’s is an ACS Verified Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Program and a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG).

Job Description

Pediatric Critical Care Core Privileges includes the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit (if applicable to the setting), evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment or consultative services and critical care management of life-threatening organ system failure from any cause in children, from the term or near-term neonate to the adolescent, as well as support of vital physiological functions. This would include but not limited to: shock, coma, elevated intracranial pressure, seizures, infections, acute and chronic renal failure, acute endocrine electrolyte emergencies (including diabetic ketoacidosis), sepsis, heart failure, trauma, acute and chronic respiratory failure, drug overdoses, massive bleeding, central nervous system dysfunction (including cerebral resuscitation), and kidney failure.

Qualifications

M.D. or D.O. degree.

Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested: An applicant who has just completed a fellowship provides his/her fellowship log. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from the hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. The applicant must be able to demonstrate at least 50 Pediatric Critical Care procedures in the last 12 months. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical setting activity for the last 12 months is required. The applicant must be able to demonstrate at least 50 Pediatric Critical Care procedures in the last 12 months. More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.

Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Pediatric residency program and completion of a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship in accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than the above, may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process as defined in the Credentialing Policy. Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entity’s policy for grandfather exceptions) Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
