Description
As a Category Buyer at Crescent Electric Supply, you are responsible for maintenance and procurement activities within their assigned categories of products. This will involve a balanced emphasis on increasing service levels to customers while achieving targets related to turnover of inventory in multiple locations. Additionally, you will be expected to maintain and enhance relationships with internal customers and suppliers.
Primary Duties:
Maintain a strong knowledge of supplier markets and build strong relationships with various disposition channels available to CESCO.
Collaborate with local management team to review appropriate inventory targets by category/item.
Achieve established on-time service goals through effective management of inventory policies, practices, and supplier management.
Understand and apply knowledge of inventory flow to support efficient business operations and decision-making.
Assist with proactive notification of issues related to delays, quality, or discrepancies.
Continuously measure key performance metrics to achieve scorecard objectives aimed at return on invested capital, service and balancing inventory investments, and service goals.
Evaluate system-generated purchasing recommendations for assigned lines and ensure the timely execution of stock and replenishment purchase orders to eliminate stock outs.
Make data-driven sourcing decisions between vendor purchases and interbranch transfers by evaluating inventory availability, demand, landed cost, freight expense, and order processing costs.
Process procurement requests in a timely manner.
Work closely and effectively with the Category Managers and Field Initiative Managers to improve the relationship with all core suppliers as defined by the approved supplier list. Deploy the strategic plans with all core suppliers.
Keep informed of current market conditions through communication with vendors, and relay relevant information to management.
Work with Inventory Planning team and vendors to determine product assortment and provide input on stocking levels.
Support new product stocking requests after approval by Inventory Planning through investment requests.
Actively work with the Asset Recovery Team on the return or disposal of obsolete, overstocked, and non-productive inventory after reviewing suggested return and transfer reporting.'
Skills:
Ability to work quickly and accurately under time constraints and against deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Must be a self-starter and detail oriented.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and basic data analysis. Pivot tables and advanced formulas preferred.
Proficiency in extracting and analyzing data in B.I. tools, Phocas preferred.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license.
Practical ERP experience, Eclipse is a plus.
Physical Demands:
Occasionally standing and walking. Most of the time sitting, use of hands/fingers, talking/hearing. Often reaching with hands/arms.
While performing this job, must have the ability to travel to company locations up to 20% of the time, with overnight stays.
May be required to work more than 40 hours per week.
