Job Title:Academic Technology Solutions Student Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:

Academic Affairs is seeking an Academic Technology Solutions Student Assistant to work closely with Instructional Technology staff on the development of applications, workflows, AI-supported tools, documentation, and other digital solutions for university programs and departments. This role is ideal for a self-directed, curious, and collaborative student who enjoys solving problems, learning new technologies, and helping turn ideas into practical solutions.

 

The student assistant will support projects that may involve application development, workflow improvement, research into emerging technologies, responsible use of generative and agentic AI, documentation, testing, and communication with campus partners. Strong communication skills, critical thinking, creativity, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn are essential.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Partner with Instructional Technology staff to develop, test, and refine applications, digital workflows, automations, AI-enabled tools, prompts, prototypes, and other technology solutions that support Academic Affairs programs and departments.

• Identify recurring needs, patterns, or opportunities across departments that could lead to reusable templates, shared tools, improved processes, or scalable academic technology solutions. 

• Work independently on assigned project components while actively collaborating with Instructional Technology staff, supervisors, faculty, staff, and departmental partners.

• Maintain clear, professional communication with technical and non-technical university stakeholders regardingprogress, questions, challenges, timelines, and next steps.

• Participate in project meetings, planning conversations, demonstrations, and feedback sessions to support collaborative solution development and refinement.

• Research and responsibly use emerging educational technologies, generative AI tools, agentic AI workflows, and application-development approaches to support brainstorming, drafting, coding assistance, workflow design, research synthesis, documentation, and solution development under staff guidance.

• Evaluate AI-generated and technology-supported outputs for accuracy, clarity, usability, bias, appropriateness, accessibility, data privacy, security, sustainability, institutional alignment, and long-term usability; create documentation, user guides, project notes, training materials, and summaries to support implementation and ongoing use.

• Current student in good academic standing
• Strong critical-thinkingand problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently, manage assigned responsibilities, and seek guidance appropriately
• Willingness to learn new platforms, tools, systems, and development approaches
• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, faculty, students, and other university partners
• Ability to approach technology use responsibly, with attention to privacy, security, accessibility, accuracy, and ethical considerations
• Comfort experimenting with generative AI tools and interest in learning about agentic AI workflows

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
