Dayton Children's Hospital is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our growing Eating Disorders Program, providing care to pediatric and adolescent patients across both outpatient and inpatient settings.

This is a unique opportunity to become part of a highly specialized, multidisciplinary team dedicated to treating children and adolescents with complex eating disorders. The ideal candidate will have training and/or experience in both medical care (family medicine or pediatrics) and psychiatric-mental health care, allowing them to provide comprehensive, integrated treatment for this medically and psychologically complex patient population.

About the Role

The APP will provide comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessment, consultation, treatment, and ongoing management for children and adolescents diagnosed with:

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Binge Eating Disorder
  • Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
  • Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED)

Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, the provider will partner with physicians, psychologists, therapists, dietitians, hospital medicine providers, behavioral health specialists, and community referral sources to ensure seamless, coordinated care across the full continuum of treatment, including:

  • Specialized outpatient eating disorders clinic
  • Inpatient medical stabilization
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Key Responsibilities:

Psychiatric & Behavioral Care

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and behavioral health assessments.
  • Evaluate restrictive eating behaviors, compensatory behaviors, and determine appropriate level of care.
  • Assess suicide risk, self-harm, and other safety concerns.
  • Diagnose and manage co-occurring mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.
  • Provide psychopharmacologic management when appropriate.
  • Consult with inpatient medical teams caring for hospitalized eating disorder patients regarding behavioral interventions and medication management.

Medical Management

  • Evaluate medical complications related to eating disorders, including malnutrition, dehydration, electrolyte abnormalities, and excessive exercise or purging behaviors.
  • Determine appropriateness for outpatient treatment versus medical admission.
  • Diagnose and manage medical concerns that may interfere with recovery, including gastrointestinal symptoms and nutritional deficiencies.
  • Monitor growth, pubertal development, bone health, and other long-term medical consequences of eating disorders.

Call Schedule

The position includes participation in a shared weekend and on-call rotation supporting inpatient consultation needs. Coverage is collaborative and designed to promote continuity of care while supporting a healthy work-life balance.
