Overview
For this role in the Waters Advanced Diagnostics LC-MS R&D team, you will be responsible for providing scientific contribution which impacts product development and business outcomes and positions us as the leading specialty measurement company in diagnostics and newborn screening.
The key purpose of the role is the development of mass spectrometry-based analytical applications for newborn screening and quantitative LC-MS/MS measurements for biochemical genetics, to support business and marketing activities, as well as new product development. The developed applications will be a key component of Waters Advanced Diagnostics solutions, therefore, they must be robust and meet the needs of routine, and research, clinical laboratories.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Development of new applications for use in clinical research and clinical diagnostics, centred around newborn screening and quantitative LC-MS/MS assays
- Production of application notes and scientific posters for clinical research
- Evaluation of new hardware, software and consumables development
- Support the transfer knowledge of applications, hardware, software and consumables to internal and external stakeholders
- Attend scientific conferences to present data and to gather knowledge
- Technical presentations at internal and external meetings
Other responsibilities include:
- Support the transfer knowledge of applications, hardware, software and diagnostic kits to internal and external stakeholders
- Assist development of the prototype reagent kits with the proposed manufacturer
- Assist the applications laboratory in conducting customer demonstrations, as required
- Generate regular written progress reports
- Ensure that regulatory, quality management system, Health & Safety and GLP standards are adhered to at all times
Qualifications
Education:
- Qualified to degree level or higher in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related life-science
Experience:
- Experience in the development and validation of analytical techniques using LC-MS/MS
- Additional experience using mass-spectrometry based techniques related to the screening and/or diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism, is considered advantageous
- An understanding of user-needs and end-to-end workflow in the context of the newborn screening and/or biochemical genetics environment
- Experience in working to GLP and QMS
