Our client is a leading international engineering consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of data centres and mission-critical facilities across Europe and globally. Due to continued growth and an expanding portfolio of hyperscale projects, they are seeking an experienced Technical Director – Mechanical Engineering to join their Dublin office.
This is a senior leadership position for a highly accomplished mechanical engineering expert who has progressed through engineering, design, and project delivery into technical leadership. The successful candidate will act as the highest level of mechanical authority within the organisation, providing strategic technical direction across major data centre developments while mentoring Associate Directors, Principal Engineers, and senior engineering teams.
Ideally, candidates will already be based (or willing to relocate) in Ireland and have experience working on projects within the Irish market and regulatory environment.
The Opportunity
This role sits above the Associate Director level and is designed for an individual recognised for their technical excellence within the data centre sector.
You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining engineering standards, providing oversight across multiple major projects, supporting key client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of the Dublin business.
The successful candidate will combine exceptional technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, ensuring that project teams continue to deliver innovative, resilient, and efficient mechanical solutions for some of the most demanding mission-critical environments in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the senior mechanical engineering authority across major data centre and mission-critical projects.
- Provide strategic technical leadership to project teams, Associate Directors, Principal Engineers, and senior stakeholders.
- Establish, review, and maintain engineering standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes.
- Lead complex technical design reviews and challenge engineering solutions to ensure optimal project outcomes.
- Provide expert guidance on critical cooling infrastructure, HVAC systems, chilled water systems, heat rejection technologies, resilience strategies, and sustainability initiatives.
- Support the successful delivery of multiple projects simultaneously across Ireland and Europe.
- Serve as the executive-level technical representative for key client relationships and major project pursuits.
- Lead high-level technical workshops, design reviews, and engineering presentations with clients, project stakeholders, and executive leadership teams.
- Support business growth by contributing to project bids, technical proposals, client engagement, and market development strategies.
- Mentor and develop Associate Directors, Principal Engineers, and technical leaders within the organisation.
- Contribute to succession planning, capability development, and the long-term growth of the Dublin office.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience delivering complex mechanical building services designs within:
- Data Centres
- Mission Critical Facilities
- Hyperscale Developments
- Semiconductor Facilities
- Pharmaceutical Facilities
- Other highly regulated environments
- Expert knowledge of:

Leadership & Technical Capability
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- A strong technical mechanical engineering background, having progressed from engineering and design into senior leadership.
- The ability to act as the organisation's senior mechanical engineering authority.
- Experience mentoring Associate Directors, Principal Engineers, and senior technical professionals.
- Strong technical credibility with the ability to challenge, guide, and influence experienced engineering teams.
- Extensive experience overseeing multidisciplinary engineering delivery on large-scale data centre projects.
- A passion for technical excellence, innovation, and engineering leadership.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Proven experience leading senior-level technical engagement with hyperscale, colocation, and mission-critical clients.
- Ability to influence project strategy and provide technical assurance on major developments.
- Experience leading executive-level design reviews, technical governance meetings, and client presentations.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience supporting business development and strategic growth initiatives.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Irish Market Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who:
- Are currently based in Ireland and/or have experience working on Irish data centre projects.
- Possess a strong understanding of Irish building regulations, engineering standards, and project delivery practices.
- Have established relationships within the Irish data centre market.
