Job Title: Materials Requirements Planner
Department: Supply Chain Planning
Reports To: Materials Planning Leadership
Direct Reports: None
Travel: 10%
Position Summary
Plan and replenish materials so production schedules can be met, while maintaining productive relationships with supply partners.
Role and Responsibilities
- Builds near-term and longer-range material plans in response to production requirements.
- Uses SAP to calculate and manage material requirements.
- Uses supplemental planning and analysis when specific material categories are managed outside SAP.
- Investigates and resolves planning exceptions shown in SAP.
- Verifies supply commitments within the established planning and frozen periods.
- Reviews supplier confirmations each week and communicates purchase orders.
- Sends updated demand projections to assigned suppliers.
- Reports on forecast accuracy each month for business teams and supply partners.
- Plans material availability for product introductions and specification changes.
- Maintains accurate material records.
- Maintains the applicable SAP MRP master-data views.
- Compares planning records with safety-stock settings to identify discrepancies.
- Updates safety-stock calculations as products are added or changed.
- Oversees material changeovers in assigned categories and limits unusable inventory.
- Participates in product development discussions and coordinates material transitions with other planning teams.
- Secures materials ahead of scheduled production runs.
- Times and sizes orders to reduce remaining stock during changeovers.
- Follows through on actions to clear obsolete and slow-moving stock.
- Flags potential excess stock during product or packaging changes.
- Manages stock against established inventory targets.
- Monitors forward inventory coverage and reschedules deliveries when needed.
- Coordinates with production schedulers on slow-moving stock.
- Communicates inventory exposure caused by demand shifts or supplier order minimums.
- Completes monthly inventory reconciliations with outside production or supplier locations when applicable.
- Arranges and performs annual counts at locations holding company-owned materials, as required by finance and internal controls.
- Analyzes material and inventory results monthly and discusses them with management as required.
- Ensures rejected materials are returned to suppliers and follows their status.
- Serves as the primary vendor contact for designated material categories.
- Works with suppliers to correct delivery and performance problems.
- Involves procurement colleagues in unresolved supplier issues.
- Completes related assignments as directed by management.

Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience planning purchases or managing supply requirements.
- Clear communication and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Strong analytical ability grounded in data.
- Ability to manage assigned projects to meet business objectives.
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements.
- Sound strategic and commercial judgment.
- Strong working knowledge of SAP and Excel.
- Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
