Description
Under the direction of the Assistant Street Superintendent and the Storm Water Assistant Superintendent. Will be responsible for duties in both the Street Department and the Storm Water Department. This position is a bargaining unit position with the United SteelWorkers Union.
- Performs a wide variety of work as required by the city administration (e.g. cuts and/or trims trees, decorates municipal complex for Christmas, puts up/removes flags for holidays, picks up dead animals, picks up and/or sweeps up trash/debris)
- Lays gravel in berms along unpaved streets
- Fills pot holes with cold patch
- Washes vehicles/equipment
- Works with the Assistant Superintendent to complete the daily tasks
- Makes repairs t storm inlets, manholes, tiles, and detention basis
- Jet clogged tiles
- Undertakes weed control
- Cuts and/or removes fallen trees from various creeks
- Operates construction and maintenance equipment (e.g. pick-up trucks of various sizes, steer skid loader, riding mowers, weed eaters, chain saws)
- Mows right-of-ways, cemeteries, and vacant lots using riding mowers, push mowers, and weed eaters
- Participates in the snow removal operations using front-end loader and single axle dump truck
- Works overtime as required to continue essential City services
- Participates in EPA mandated storm water inspections and training
- Fabricates, installs, repairs, and removes traffic control signs/street name signs, and other types of signs as requested by other city departments
- Troubleshoots and makes minor repairs to traffic light system
- Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties
- Participates in staff development activities and services review procedures
- Attends staff meetings and supervisory conferences
- Maintains required licenses and/or certificates
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- High School diploma or GED or equivalent
- Two (2) to three (3) years previous experience or training in use of power and/or hand tools
- Valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s license, with air brakes and tanker endorsements or must obtain one within one year of employment
Knowledge of:
- General construction, maintenance, and repair of streets
- Snow and ice removal

- Using various hand tools (e.g., screw driver, hammer, ratchet, pliers); power tools (e.g., air compressor, electric drill)

Working Conditions:
- Heavy: lift, push, pull 50 to 100 pounds occasionally; 20 to 50 pounds frequently
- Works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways
- Ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds
- Works in an area in which the means of egress is or can be obstructed
- Works on and around powered platforms and/or vehicle mounted platforms
- Is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas
- Is exposed to possible injury from extremely noisy conditions above 85 db. (e.g., salt trucks, post pounder, jack hammer, back-up generator, power tools, heavy equipment)
- Is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, or air contaminants
- Is exposed to possible injury from hazardous waste
- Is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions
- Is exposed to possible injury as a result of electrical shock
- Is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines (e.g., salt trucks, post pounder, jack hammer, heavy equipment, power tools, bucket truck, chain saws)
- Is exposed to possible injury from explosions
- Is exposed to possible injury as a result of falling from high places
- Has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons
- Has exposure to potentially vicious animals
- Has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions
