JOB SUMMARY:
The Paint Prep/Assembly position is responsible for preparing manufactured metal components for painting and final production. This position performs surface preparation, sanding, grinding, deburring, polishing, cleaning and masking while using a variety of hand and power tools to achieve required finishes. The employee also assists with assembly, material handling, and preparing completed products for painting and shipment while following blueprints, work instructions, quality requirements, and safety standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare surfaces to be coated by using various methods such as sandblasting, hand sanding, masking, and cleaning with solvent.
- Touches up areas of painted items as needed.
- Operates common material handling equipment such as hand trucks, powered pallet jacks, powered industrial trucks, and overhead cranes to manipulate large, fabricated parts into proper position.
- Assists with preparing final product for shipment.
- Performs finishing operations including deburring, sanding, grinding, polishing, and cleaning on a variety of metal components.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as grinders, sanders, and buffers to achieve required finishes.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, work instructions, and quality specifications to determine finishing requirements.
- Assembles machinery, fabricated metal products, electrical equipment, and more according to directions.
- Uses various machines and hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks.

Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in a machine shop, fabrication, or finishing environment preferred.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and specifications required.
- Must be able to work in a team-based environment.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and have a strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to wear a respirator, have excellent dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen, physical, and background check.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a manufacturing environment in the Main Plant located in Westbrook, Maine. This role routinely uses standard production equipment such as power tools and other mechanic hand tools. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
