What You’ll Do

• Process accurate and timely weekly payroll for multiple operating companies and employees across multiple states using Paylocity or another major payroll platform.
• Review payroll data for accuracy, including hours, earnings, deductions, taxes, benefits, and other payroll-related items.
• Ensure proper payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishments, and other employee contributions.
• Review payroll tax filings and payments for accuracy and compliance, partnering with our payroll provider to resolve discrepancies and issues.
• Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and bank activity, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
• Process payroll adjustments and corrections while maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
• Troubleshoot payroll issues and proactively identify opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Serve as a resource for employees, managers, HR, and accounting teams regarding payroll questions, deductions, taxes, and discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of employee compensation, tax, banking, and other sensitive payroll information.

What We’re Looking For

• 4+ years of hands-on certified payroll experience, preferably including multi-state payroll.
• Experience supporting certified payroll for multiple locations, operating companies, or business units.
• Experience with Paylocity, ADP, UKG, Paychex, Paycor, or similar payroll systems. Paylocity experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of payroll processing, deductions, taxes, and compliance requirements.
• Experience with payroll reconciliations and general accounting functions.
• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manipulate, analyze, and reconcile payroll data.
• Strong problem-solving skills—you know how to investigate discrepancies, identify the root cause, and get issues resolved.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
• Experience in the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, construction, or field-service industry is a plus.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 4+ years of hands-on payroll experience required.
• Multi-state payroll experience strongly preferred.
• Payroll certification such as FPC or CPP is a plus.
• Accounting or business education is a plus, but relevant payroll experience is highly valued.
