System Integration Senior Manager

Responsibilities

The System Integration Senior Manager is a senior Nuclear Power Group leader responsible for technical direction, organizational accountability, and strategic growth of system integration services across Sargent & Lundy. This role serves as a recognized authority for system integration activities including hardware design, software design, requirements development, programming, testing, verification and validation, and cyber security.

 

The position interfaces directly with S&L Project Directors and client Senior Leadership Teams to align technical execution, delivery strategy, risk management, quality expectations, and business objectives. The System Integration Senior Manager is responsible for strengthening S&L capabilities, ensuring adherence to applicable System Integration and Cyber Security SPPQ processes, integrating government services work with IE58 System Integration SPPQ expectations, and providing leadership for internal development and external market presence.

 

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction for system integration activities across the Nuclear Power Group, including hardware design, software design, requirements, programming, testing, verification and validation, and cyber security
• Establish and maintain the overall technical strategy, execution approach, and governance model for complex system integration work across client projects, internal initiatives, and strategic growth efforts
• Serve as a senior technical authority for multidisciplinary integration issues involving instrumentation and controls, digital systems, plant interfaces, software-enabled solutions, and cyber security requirements
• Interface directly with S&L Project Directors and client Senior Leadership Teams on project strategy, technical issues, execution priorities, risk posture, and resolution of critical matters
• Drive capability development and adherence associated with System Integration and Cyber Security SPPQ processes
• Integrate Government Services system integration work with IE58 System Integration SPPQ expectations and promote consistent execution practices across organizations
• Lead technical planning, issue resolution, and decision-making for system integration work performed in S&L facilities and at client sites
• Support proposal strategy, scope development, technical positioning, and business development for domestic and international nuclear utilities and facilities
• Represent S&L in industry forums, conferences, marketing activities, and social media efforts related to system integration capabilities and thought leadership
• Work closely with the QA Director to ensure compliance, alignment with quality expectations, and consistent application of required processes and controls
• Manage technical risk across system integration scopes, including identification, mitigation planning, escalation, and resolution
• Create and maintain position maps and position descriptions supporting the system integration career path
• Maintain and control the Chicago, Wilmington, and Richland I&C labs, along with system integration work performed at client sites
• Interface with EIG, GRID, and SLC to support their system integration activities and promote a coordinated enterprise approach

Technical Leadership Expectations

• Act as a recognized authority in system integration and cyber security within the Nuclear Power Group
• Provide oversight for integrated solutions involving system architecture, requirements definition, hardware and software interfaces, implementation planning, design reviews, and test strategies
• Guide teams in the application of disciplined methods for programming, testing, verification and validation, and configuration control
• Ensure technical decisions appropriately consider quality, operability, maintainability, cyber security, regulatory implications, client objectives, and long-term lifecycle value
• Review and direct resolution of complex issues involving digital upgrades, control system modifications, plant interfaces, multidisciplinary dependencies, and field implementation constraints
• Promote practical engineering judgment, technical rigor, and consistent use of approved processes, standards, and lessons learned

Organizational and Management Responsibilities

• Lead, influence, and coordinate system integration efforts across business units and technical disciplines while maintaining accountability for outcomes
• Support staffing, development, mentoring, and succession planning for personnel involved in system integration work
• Clarify roles, expectations, and career progression for the system integration organization through development of position descriptions and position maps
• Provide direction on priorities, technical standards, escalation paths, and execution expectations for teams performing integration work
• Strengthen enterprise capability by aligning tools, methods, training, and work practices across offices and projects
• Oversee the effective operation, control, and use of the Chicago, Wilmington, and Richland I&C labs in support of project execution, development, and demonstration needs

Client, Business Development, and Market Leadership Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong client confidence through technical credibility, executive presence, responsiveness, and sound judgment
• Support business development efforts with domestic and international nuclear utilities and facilities through technical strategy, relationship building, presentations, proposals, and pursuit support
• Help define and communicate S&L’s system integration value proposition in the market
• Maintain an active leadership role in industry conferences, external engagements, marketing initiatives, and social media presence to strengthen visibility and business growth
• Identify opportunities for expanded services, strategic partnerships, and improved delivery approaches that enhance S&L’s position in the market

Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management Responsibilities

• Work closely with the QA Director to ensure compliance with applicable quality requirements, procedures, and governance expectations
• Drive adherence to System Integration and Cyber Security SPPQ processes and related implementation practices
• Ensure work is planned and executed in a manner that supports technical quality, traceability, defensibility, and audit readiness
• Identify, communicate, and manage technical risk across programs, projects, laboratories, and site activities
• Lead mitigation planning for issues that may affect safety, quality, scope, schedule, cost, reputation, or client confidence

Enterprise Collaboration Responsibilities

• Interface with EIG, GRID, and SLC to support their system integration needs and align practices where beneficial
• Coordinate with Project Directors, discipline leaders, technical specialists, and client managers to ensure consistent execution across projects and organizations
• Support integration of internal capabilities and external-facing work so that delivery methods remain scalable, compliant, and commercially effective

Decision-Making and Impact

This role operates with a high degree of independence and is expected to make or guide decisions that significantly affect technical quality, project performance, client relationships, organizational capability, and business growth. Decisions often involve complex tradeoffs among technical requirements, cyber security expectations, resource constraints, schedule demands, compliance obligations, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field
• Extensive experience in system integration, IT, networking, instrumentation and controls, digital systems, software-enabled engineering solutions, or related multidisciplinary technical environments
• Demonstrated success leading complex technical programs, organizational initiatives, or client-facing integration efforts in the nuclear or other highly regulated industries
• Strong knowledge of hardware design, software design, requirements development, programming, testing, verification and validation, and cyber security
• Proven ability to interface effectively with senior client leadership, project directors, and internal leadership on high-impact technical and business matters
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to balance technical depth, organizational accountability, and business strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer license or equivalent professional credential
• Advanced degree in engineering, systems engineering, cyber security, business, or a related field
• Experience supporting domestic and international nuclear utility clients
• Experience with SPPQ process implementation, quality compliance, and technical governance in regulated environments
• Experience leading laboratory-based integration activities and field execution at client sites
• Track record of business development, market visibility, and industry leadership

Compensation Range

$165,610 - $253,015
