Location: Remote (U.S.)

Compensation: $40–$65 per hour, depending on experience and classification

Elder Hanson & Company, Ltd., an established CPA firm located in downtown Naperville, Illinois, is looking for an experienced CPA, Enrolled Agent (EA), Tax Accountant, or Tax Preparer to join our team for the 2027 tax season.

This is a seasonal, fully remote position with a flexible schedule for a tax professional with strong public accounting experience and, ideally, recent experience preparing and reviewing income tax returns. The position is well suited for an experienced professional who can manage assigned tax work independently while working collaboratively with a remote CPA firm.

Tax Preparation & Review Responsibilities

• Prepare and review individual federal and state income tax returns (Form 1040)
• Prepare and review S corporation income tax returns (Form 1120-S)
• Prepare and review partnership income tax returns (Form 1065)
• Prepare and review trust and estate income tax returns (Form 1041)
• Research federal and state tax questions and assist with tax planning
• Identify tax-saving opportunities for clients
• Assist with tax consulting and client communications
• Prepare income tax basis financial statements when needed
• Communicate effectively with clients and members of the firm
• Manage assigned work independently while remaining engaged with the remote team
• Work with Lacerte, QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office, ShareFile, and OfficeTools

Qualifications

Required

• 7+ years of public accounting experience
• Recent experience preparing and reviewing income tax returns
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
• Strong experience with individual income tax returns, particularly Form 1040
• Experience with Forms 1120-S, 1065, and 1041
• Solid knowledge of federal and state income tax rules
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tax-season deadlines
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks Online

Preferred

• Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation
• Experience using Lacerte Tax Software
• Experience with multi-state income tax returns
• Tax research, planning, and consulting experience
• Experience working in a remote public accounting environment

2027 Tax Season Schedule

• January through April 2027
• Fully remote within the United States
• Approximately 30+ hours per week during tax season
• Additional hours may be available during peak periods
• Flexible scheduling based on workload and filing deadlines
