Description
Your mission
You own what learners actually play. Our catalogue is the heart of the Skoove experience, and it is also our largest content cost and our most constrained resource. Every song in the app exists because someone negotiated the right to put it there, modelled what it would cost, and judged what it would do for the learner.
That is your job. You own the songs in our piano learning apps end to end: which music we license, what it costs, what each licence permits, and what it does for our learners. Our didactics lead owns the teaching content, and the two of you decide together which songs carry the didactics.
You work alongside a didactics lead and a content producer, and you are the voice of content in our product owner round. You bring the commercial and rights lens. They bring pedagogy and production.
This is not an internally facing product role. You will sit across the table from music publishers and labels, model the deals, and understand what each licence allows in the app. Our CEO leads negotiations with you at the start and an external licensing advisor supports the specialist work. You grow into owning it.
And you care about the music itself. Getting the songs people actually want to play into a learning app, at a cost that works, is one of the most satisfying puzzles in this company.
You have a real passion for AI tools: prototyping, analysis, modelling, experimentation. You bring new thinking on AI-first product work and model that mindset for others.
Your job
Own the song catalogue for the Skoove apps: what we add, what we retire, and why. You have a point of view on which music learners want to play, and the evidence to back it.
Co-own the song selection inside the didactics together with our didactics lead. Their pedagogy, your rights and catalogue view.
Own the commercial modelling of content: licence cost per subscriber and per song, revenue share, catalogue coverage against learner value, and the conversion effect of licensed content.
Own the rights picture: which repertoire we hold, under what terms and territories, and what each licence permits in the product. Keep the clearance gate current so no song ships uncleared.
Represent us with publishers and labels. Prepare the position, evaluate term sheets, identify the assumptions worth challenging, and document the relationship. Supported by the CEO and an external advisor, with the aim of taking full ownership.
Be accountable for contractual reporting to partners: usage reports in the agreed format by the contract deadline, payments, audits and disputes. Colleagues in Commercial and Finance build and contribute to those reports. You own that they land on time.
Monitor usage against plan: usage share per publisher, dilution against targets, and act when the numbers move. Translate licensing constraints and opportunities into product decisions, and carry product's catalogue requests back into licensing.
Own the content unit's backlog and work closely with the team's engineer to turn priorities into progress. Prototype with AI coding tools where you can rather than waiting for a sprint, and contribute to the product owner round, sharing context and supporting the other product owners when useful.
Where is the role heading:
You start with the catalogue and the licensing relationships we have. Over the first year you take full ownership of negotiations as the CEO steps back, and you shape how our content strategy scales across further products and partner apps. The right person wants to own a domain, not administer one.
Your profile
Must have:
3+ years of relevant professional experience, with at least 2 years in a role with clear ownership and responsibility. Product management experience is preferred, but we also welcome backgrounds in music licensing, rights, catalogue, partnerships or commercial roles.
A working understanding of the music licensing world. You know what a publisher, a PRO and a mechanical licence are, you have seen how rights affect a product, and you are curious about the rest. We will teach you the depth.
You play piano, or you have learned it far enough to remember exactly what was hard. You understand the learner's journey from the inside: what motivates beginners, what makes them quit, what keeps them coming back.
Strong partner and stakeholder management skills. You are comfortable working directly with external partners and taking part in negotiations. You are also highly reliable when it comes to contractual obligations and recurring deadlines — when something needs to land on time, you make sure it does.
Strong analytical and commercial skills. You are comfortable with cohort data, experimentation and commercial modelling. You can build the case for an investment in a spreadsheet, understand what the data is telling you and defend the assumptions behind it.
Product management skills. You are comfortable with prioritisation, balancing user and business needs, and turning them into clear decisions and outcomes. You are outcome-oriented and entrepreneurial: you take ownership of results, not tasks.
AI fluency and curiosity. You are confident in using AI/LLM tools to support data analysis, modelling, reporting, presentations and day-to-day product work, with a strong willingness to experiment and rapidly develop new AI-enabled ways of working.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Strong plus:
Hands-on experience in music rights, publishing, licensing, royalties or catalogue work.
Content or catalogue product experience at a streaming, media, audiobook or games company.
Strong product discovery skills. You go from user problem to hypothesis to test to decision, using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Experience negotiating with suppliers or rights holders.
Financial modelling depth.
German language skills in addition to English.
Music tech, e-learning, gaming or consumer entertainment background.
What's in it for you?
