PURPOSE

Under general supervision, the Research Compliance Specialist II aids faculty researchers serving as Principal Investigators in the regulatory management of research studies as well as administrative aspect of research projects.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Protocol Review: 35%

• Research study setup
  • Drafting initial submissions
  • Ensuring research does not commence before approval
  • Assisting with the review process including responding to committee comments
• Maintain research approvals for IACUC and IBC
  • Managing continuing review and de novo review deadlines
  • Submitting amendments to research regulatory committees and ensuring changes are not implemented until approval is received

 

Research Study Administration: 30%

• Manage research records of study activity including case report forms, personnel compliance requirements, lab records, and other documentation
• Manage research team compliance with relevant requirements (e.g. training and occupational health program)
• Support the collection and review of required essential study documents and reports

Laboratory Operations and Inspections: 35%

• Manage lab research operations and develop SOPs/procedures/guidelines including, but not limited to:
  • Animal care and use protocols and IACUC guidance
  • Performing the daily care and health status observation of research animals for experimental purposes
  • IBC permits and other biosafety/lab safety requirements
• Assist in lab inspections
  • Working with EH&S and research compliance committees in scheduling routine lab inspections
  • Providing support to PIs in preparation of lab space and protocols to maintain a state of inspection readiness
  • Working with EH&S and research compliance committee to complete corrective actions from inspections
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in biology or related area.

• Two (2) years of related experience.

• Basic knowledge of laboratory animal techniques including anesthesia, aseptic technique, handling, and drug administration, as well as recognition of normal animal behavior.

• Basic knowledge of safe laboratory practices when working with biohazards.

• Familiar with research study logs and record-keeping.

• Knowledge of biosafety/lab safety requirements, as well as USDA, AAALAC, NIH-OLAW, state, local, and institutional requirements regarding the housing and care of animals in teaching and research to ensure the highest standard for animal welfare.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to interpret research data from various internal and external sources and synthesize results.
• Ability to interpret research committee requirements and support actions that will be effective to meet those needs.

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Preferred experience working in Cayuse research compliance software to submit research applications and manage approvals.

• Masters' degree in biology or a related field.

• Experience working with research compliance issues in a professional setting or working in an academic research laboratory setting.

• Ability to managing multiple concurrent research studies.

• Vivarium experience

• Professional certification, such as:

• • Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP)

• • Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP)
  • Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA)

SALARY: Commensurate (Dependent on experience and education)
