Description
Position Summary:
The Manager of Conflicts and New Business will have a robust understanding of legal ethics and conflicts partnered with a professional sense of responsibility. The position will require the prompt evaluation and resolution of potential conflicts of interests, and the ability to advise other attorneys on related procedures. Other responsibilities include drafting documents such as screening memoranda, as well as handling risk management affairs and lateral attorney onboarding regarding conflicts matters. The Manager of Conflicts and New Business will report to the firm’s Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Oversea the end-to-end conflicts process, new business intake and risk functions.
- Operate as the senior escalation point and liaison between Firm leadership and relevant business departments.
- Research using an internal and external database for pertinent information on existing clients, prospective clients and related parties and to determine the status of relevant matters in order to establish whether conflicts of interests exist
- Conduct due diligence and extensive research, analyze, and determine existing or potential conflicts
- Evaluate information and resolve a variety of potential and actual legal conflicts of interests; and clearance of risk issues that may arise in a deadline-driven environment
- Analyze a large amount of complicated data, interpret and communicate the results in a clear and concise manner
- Analyze, identify and discuss the need for waivers, when needed, with requesting attorneys
- Review new intake forms with an understanding of transactions and litigious matters and ensure submitted party information is correct
- Review client engagement letters and new matter requests for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain database of current/past clients/matters and ensure data is updated with appropriate and valid information
- Establish and implement new systems and procedures aimed at streamlining processes
- Play an integral role in upgrading the conflicts and new business intake system and downstream systems
- Review existing policies/procedures and proposed updates/changes
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Three to five years of experience in a law firm or non-legal conflict environment with the primary responsibility of managing and performing all duties associated with conflicts of interests’ analysis and reporting process, including oversees and supervises the conflicts process
- Experience using Intapp Open and/or Intapp Conflicts (preferred)
- Experience using research applications such as S&P Capital IQ, Dun & Bradstreet Family Tree Portal, Hoovers Business Report, LSEG_World-Check-One and interpreting the results on a company’s subsidiaries/affiliates produced by those systems
- Experience upgrading conflicts and new business intake systems (preferred)
- Facility with the operation and maintenance of client/matter database
- Detail-oriented in all aspects of work\
- Willingness to work closely with other team members and take direction from team leaders
- Education: Bachelors Degree (required), Juris Doctorate (preferred)
- Hybrid Work: Minimum of three days/week in the NY Office (required)
- Target Salary Range: $180,000-$200,000
