What you’ll be doing...

We are seeking a Transport  Security Policy & Audit Principal Engineer to lead network security designs, deployment strategies, and automation efforts across the Verizon network.  In this role, you will collaborate with Planning and Design teams to architect security policies for new and existing environments and network segments. The Transport  Security Policy & Audit (TSPA) team  provides several key Network Security functions related to network access controls:

• Evaluation and approval for network firewall rules and ACLs
• Auditing of security controls within the major network environments
• Management of transport configurations in support of site to site VPN tunnels

Duties that  the TSPA Principal Engineer will engage in include (but not limited to):

• Architectural Design & Strategy: Lead strategic alignment of business objectives with technical solutions by translating complex requirements into scalable architectural designs and implementation roadmaps, and design fault-tolerant platform architectures to support long-term growth and system reliability at scale. 
• Access Control & Policy Engineering: Drive access control design for major projects, collaborating with application owners to optimize policy design, evaluate different policy approaches for efficiency, anticipate design impact, and minimize deployment risks. 
• Engineering Standards & Technical Leadership: Act as a cross-functional technical authority in Network Security to set engineering standards, lead enterprise-wide knowledge-sharing, and evolve organizational workflows to optimize collaboration and accountability. 
• Operations, Support & Reliability: Oversee deployment strategies, hardware/software lifecycle management, and architect a resilient 24x7 support model with automation and observability, while defining and tracking KPIs and SLOs to measure platform performance and scalability. 
• Evaluation, Incident Investigation & Vendor Management: Evaluate new platforms, lead internal investigations and RFOs for access control incidents, extract lessons learned, and manage vendor evaluations. 
  
  ***This role can be located in any US based Verizon hub location.***

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
• Experience in Network and Security Operations.  
• Hands-on experience with firewall engineering (F5, Juniper, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Cisco, Fortinet, etc.), networking and routing protocols (TCP/IP, VPN), and network security fundamentals and best practices.Strong capability in troubleshooting network connections, resolving complex network access and routing issues, participating in technical discussions, and handling on-call duties. 
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision, lead complex tasks and projects, mentor junior engineers, and maintain high standards of accountability and work ethics. 

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

• High level understanding of access control design impact on a large and complex production network.
• Understand the VCP Core, Edge and Far Edge networks, end-to-end.
• CISSP, CCNP, Palo Alto, Juniper, FortiGate, F5 certifications.
• Experience in training and mentoring junior engineers

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.

The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $120,500.00 - $231,000.00.
