Through a TNTP partnership with City Schools, Baltimore City Teaching Residency (BCTR) provides career changers and recent college graduates the chance to transform the lives of Baltimore City youth. BCTR is an alternative route to a career in teaching for talented professionals committed to improving the odds for kids by raising student achievement. We are not just any teacher preparation program. We do not just provide a means to earn certification. We prepare teachers to lead thriving, academically demanding classroom communities in which students achieve at high levels. BCTR has trained more than 2,500 teachers for schools in Baltimore since 2002. Our teachers come from many walks of life, but most come from other careers; they are all committed to ending the injustice of educational inequity. BCTR teachers represent 1 in every 10 teachers in Baltimore City Schools and have reached over 380,000 students. 

 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

As an Effectiveness Coach you will play a critical role in TNTP's teacher development initiatives and academic consulting work by supporting and developing BCTR Residents and BCPS paraeducators. You will play a major role in developing their full potential as well as the design and facilitation of relevant curriculum and instruction-centered professional development focused on preparing them to support multilingual learners or students who receive special education services in Baltimore City public schools. This position is contingent on available funding and is currently grant-funded through June 2029. 

 

Responsibilities:  

• Develop and execute a data-driven and comprehensive coaching strategy that supports retention and improved performance of Residents and BCTR paraeducators. 

• Communicate and collaborate to support and BCPS paraeducators' development with key stakeholders – partners, principals, City Schools staff and other BCTR team staff. 

• Identify innovative solutions for improving teachers’ overall performance to meet contract goals to ultimately provide strong, culturally responsive instruction to their students. 

• Contribute to the design, implementation and management of Pre-Service Training (PST), for both the traditional and apprenticeship pathway (BCPS paraeducators) for incoming Residents   

• Design Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards-aligned, content-specific sessions for teacher professional development and certification requirements. 

• Partner and collaborate with the BCTR team to provide a supportive, engaging, high-quality, joyful and data-informed program experience for stakeholders across Baltimore City. 

• Play a supporting role in TNTP’s teacher development initiatives, proposing and crafting long-term, aligned teacher development strategies and services. 

• The expected travel for this role is up to and including 40%. This can be 4-5 days on-site per week, during peak season. In addition, as this will mostly be local travel around Baltimore and surrounding areas, all candidates must have a valid Driver’s License (reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities). 

 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS 

• At least three years of teaching experience 

• Prior experience developing and coaching teachers  

• Proven track record of building trusting relationships with other adults 

• Experience with deeper learning, school design, innovative models, and/or standards-aligned project-based learning, as well as cultural proficiency (preferred) 

• Previous experience designing and facilitating professional development for teachers  

• Experience supporting multilingual learners (MLs) or students who receive special education services and knowledge on best practices to support these students (preferred) 

• Strong creative instincts to develop new approaches, programs or initiatives with limited guidance and historical precedent 

• Ability to track and analyze data on teacher and student performance to uncover trends and act strategically and effectively to improve results 

• A commitment to constant learning and improvement in both your own work and the work of others. You thrive on feedback and implement it quickly to continually improve your practice 

 

WHAT WE OFFER 

The salary range for this position is $67,661 - $101,491. New hires can typically expect a starting salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint ($67,661- $84,576), in alignment with experience, qualifications, and our commitment to equity in compensation.
