DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary
The Superintendent - Station Finishes is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all station architectural and finish work associated with major transportation infrastructure projects. This position provides daily field leadership for interior station construction activities, including finishes, architectural systems, specialty installations, and final turnover. The Superintendent works closely with project management, subcontractors, owners, consultants, and inspection agencies to ensure all work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing station finishes on transit, rail, airport, or large commercial construction projects in New York City.
Job Description
- Manage and supervise all station finish activities from rough-in through final completion.
- Coordinate installation of:
- Tile and terrazzo
- Stone and masonry finishes
- Metal panels and ceilings
- Drywall and painting
- Architectural concrete finishes
- Doors, frames, and hardware
- Signage and wayfinding systems
- Specialty architectural components
- Platform and passenger-area finishes
- Develop and manage short-term look-ahead schedules for station finish activities.
- Coordinate daily work with MEP, systems, structural, and civil construction teams.
- Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and daily field activities.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with contract documents, project specifications, owner requirements, and approved shop drawings.
- Identify and resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and sequencing challenges.
- Monitor manpower levels, production rates, and subcontractor performance.
- Maintain project schedule milestones and implement recovery plans when required.
- Conduct regular quality-control inspections and ensure compliance with project standards.
- Manage punch list development, deficiency correction, and project turnover activities.
- Verify completion of testing, closeout documentation, and as-built requirements.
- Maintain a safe work environment and enforce all company and site-specific safety policies.
- Prepare daily reports documenting work progress, manpower, equipment utilization, and field issues.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of Superintendent/supervisory experience, preferably with a General Contractor
- Experience on transit, railroad, airport, transportation, infrastructure, or large commercial projects.
- Strong knowledge of station architectural systems and finish sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, RFIs, and submittals.
- Working knowledge of NYC construction practices, quality standards, and inspection requirements.
- Experience coordinating union labor and multiple subcontractors.
- Experience on MTA, Port Authority, Amtrak, NYC Transit, LIRR, NJ Transit, or airport projects.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- NYC SST Supervisor Card.
- Experience with phased construction and maintaining operations in active transportation facilities.
- Knowledge of ADA requirements and public-facing infrastructure environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
