Position: Senior Software Engineer – Store Associate Technology 

 

Job Location: 2245 Monroe St, Herndon, VA 20171 

 

Duties: Leads the work for ModFlex projects within Me@Walmart by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long-term solutions for Modulars, Aisle Locations, and Features capabilities serving store associates across 4,700+ U.S. stores; reviewing and providing feedback for proposed solutions; and performing design and code reviews across the React Native frontend and Java backend.  Troubleshoots issues affecting associates' ability to set modulars, manage aisle locations, and maintain promotional features by gathering information (for example, mod setting failures, incorrect location assignments, mislocated merchandise); engaging support teams to assist in resolution; formulating and executing action plans; performing root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence; and completing online documentation.  Supports Store Operations by responding to questions, concerns, and issues related to the modular lifecycle (Ready-to-Set, Current, Upcoming, Expired, Late), the 10-day mod completion window, aisle location hierarchy (Zones, Aisles, Sections, Endcaps), and feature placement on action alleys; identifying short- and long-term solutions; facilitating resolutions; and leading cross-functional partnerships with Store Operations, Product Management, UX, Platform, and Data Science teams.  Leads the discovery phase of projects — such as Modular Condense, Guided Mods, Digital Shelf Label integration, and international expansion — by partnering with product management, project management, Store Operations, the Modular Space Team, and user experience teams; and obtaining cross-functional approvals.  Leads and participates in projects by reviewing requirements; translating them into technical solutions; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, planogram specifications); writing and developing code for mod setting, aisle location scanning, label printing, and feature management workflows; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to stakeholders; collaborating with cross-functional teams; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; ensuring on-time delivery; and providing leadership to the project team.  

 

Minimum education and experience required: Master’s degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field OR Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field plus 2 years of experience in software engineering or related experience. 

 

Skills Required: Must have experience with: Translating requirements into Jira Epics/Stories/Tasks with Given/When/Then criteria and linked design specs; Building UI in React Native TypeScript, integrating APIs via fetch/Axios, using OpenAPI-generated types/clients with ESLint/Prettier; Designing REST APIs in Java 17 with Spring Boot/MVC, springdoc-openapi (Swagger), Spring Security (OAuth2/JWT); Exposing APIs via API Gateway for routing, auth, rate limiting, policies, and versioning; Applying SOLID/OOP with clean layering (controller/service/domain/repo), enforced via SonarQube; Using Azure cloud-native: Docker, Kubernetes, Container Registry, Vault for secrets, Ansible with rolling updates and autoscaling; Using Spring Data JPA/Hibernate with entity mappings, transactions, and Liquibase schema versioning; Designing NoSQL models with proper partition keys, access-pattern-driven modeling, TTL, consistency, and secondary indexes; Using Apache Kafka: producers/consumers, consumer groups, partitions, offset management, retries/DLQ, and Lenses for topic inspection and lag troubleshooting; Querying Google BigQuery with efficient SQL, partitioning/clustering awareness, sampled validation, and cost controls; Writing automated tests: JUnit/Mockito for unit, Test containers for integration, JMeter/Gatling for performance; Using Git/GitHub with PR workflows, protected branches, and CI checks for merge gates. Employer will accept any amount of graduate coursework, graduate research experience or professional experience with the required skills. 

 Rate of pay: $127,462.00 - 216,000.00/year
