Inventory/GL Staff Accountant
Design Within Reach is looking for an Inventory/GL Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. In this role, you will support the accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, analysis, and subsidiary ledger maintenance. You will also support inventory counts across our U.S. fleet of Design Within Reach, Herman Miller, and Knoll retail locations. This role reports to the Inventory Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain SOX controls and processes related to inventory & COGS.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals for inventory, COGS, inventory movement, shrink, and inventory in-transit.
- Utilities Accruals, Temp charges, other accruals, Ad hoc Journals, Return authorization closure, and follow-ups on aged accrual transactions.
- Cross train on other GL and AP functions.
- Prepare and validate the following:
- Physical inventory counts
- On-Hand reports
- Weekly cycle counts
- Unfulfilled Floor sales
- Review daily inventory activity.
- Work closely with multiple departments and warehouses.
- Assist with inventory audits and other aspects of compliance.
- Identify and implement process and performance improvements.
- Special projects as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting / finance
- 4-6 years of experience in Accounting GL and Reconciliation
- Experience with ERP systems is required; NetSuite experience is strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel skills are required, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be self-starter.
Additional Essential Functions:
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels, by telephone and face-to-face.
- Computer skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
- Flexible to work night shifts 5:30 pm to 2:30 pm IST time
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude to change and adaptable to meet new challenges.
- Self-motivated – able to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
