Student Project Assistant
Gertrude Whitley Performance Library
Hiring Unit: Marvin Duchow Music Library
Hours: Up to 12 hours per week, August 24 to November 28 (possibility for renewal)
Position Summary:
Participates in various projects related to the preparation of scores and parts at the Gertrude Whitley Performance Library during peak periods. Tasks may include printing, assistance with binding operations, preparation of materials for dissemination to students, bibliographic searching, preparation of materials for cataloguing, checking for duplicates, tattle-taping, labeling, barcoding, adding provenance labels, organizing materials, shifting, and performing other supplementary tasks as assigned.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Excellent knowledge of music and music materials, preferably with some formal training. Knowledge of large ensemble materials. Demonstrated organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to clearly transmit and receive information. Demonstrated ability to cope with physical requirements: handling, carrying, and lifting of library materials. Previous library or similar experience preferred. English: spoken, read and written. French: spoken and read. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
