Description

Dematic is looking for a Solution Development Engineer to create safe, competitive, and customer-centered solutions in two main areas: Lifecycle Solutions and Services contracts, and Modernizations & Upgrades projects. This role works closely with Sales, Operations, engineering teams, and subject matter experts. It assesses customer needs, prepares scopes and cost estimates, leads cross-functional proposal teams, and ensures timely delivery of accurate proposals. The Solution Development Engineer may present suggested solutions to Dematic management, Sales, and customers, and helps ensure a smooth transition to Operations after project award.

The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $82,875 - $120,000 at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills. This role is to backfill someone moving to a new position in the company.

Tasks and Qualifications:

What You Will Do

  • Develop service contract solutions that may include Resident Maintenance, audits, preventive maintenance, remote support, digitalization, training, and related lifecycle offerings.

  • Develop Modernizations & Upgrades solutions of varying complexity that may integrate automated mechanical material handling systems, drives, hardware, controls, and software.

  • Review solution requests, customer specifications, operational requirements, application objectives, site information, and supporting documentation to define customer needs and solution requirements.

  • Build service and project concepts, scopes of work, staffing assumptions, application designs, cost estimates, and costing workbooks using established tools and processes.

  • Own proposal-team schedules, coordinate required inputs, meet target completion dates, and provide reliable status reporting for active Solution Requests.

  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Lifecycle Solutions and Services, engineering teams, and other collaborators to resolve information gaps, review costing methods, and document assumptions and decisions.

  • Lead or support proposal reviews, renewal discussions, pre-sales activities, and customer conversations, including presenting proposed solutions and commercial assumptions as needed.

  • Manage multiple opportunities simultaneously, identify and bring up unusual or highly complex issues, and maintain accountability for quality, accuracy, and schedule performance.

  • After award, facilitate an organized handoff of the approved scope, costing assumptions, commitments, and supporting information to the Operations or execution team.

  • Stay current with material handling concepts, adapt quickly to new processes and tools, and take a proactive role in continuous improvement.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.

  • Typically 3-5 years of related experience in solution development, service estimating, proposal development, material handling, engineering, or a comparable field.

  • Knowledge of customer operations, service contract offerings, automated material handling equipment, controls, software, and proposal-development practices.

  • Established skill in examining detailed requirements, resolving issues, formulating workable solutions, and managing self-directed subject matter experts.

  • Strong leadership, written and verbal communication, collaboration, organization, and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Ability to handle several opportunities and deadlines simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and providing clear updates on progress.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including PivotTables; experience with Salesforce, SAP, AutoCAD, Maestro, and iProposal is preferred or beneficial.

  • Approximately 20% travel may be required to customer sites or Dematic locations.
