As part of the university, the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center is a federally funded center that operates exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students as well as national outreach programs which develop and disseminate innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide, and provide information, training, and technical assistance to parents and professionals serving children from birth through age 21.

Summary:

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Advancing Trauma Informed Care for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, the Research Support Specialist serves as a part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals who are working to enhance the trauma informed services available to deaf and hard of hearing children across the country.


 

Job Description:

  • Supports the day-to-day operations of grant-funded research projects to ensure activities are completed efficiently and on schedule.

  • Assists with administrative processes for grant activities, including contractor documentation, compliance requirements, and project records.

  • Recruits, schedules, and communicates with research participant families to coordinate study visits and maintain participant engagement.

  • Coordinates research logistics, including meetings, study sessions, materials, equipment, and other operational needs.

  • Assists with the collection, organization, and maintenance of research data to support accurate recordkeeping and analysis.

  • Supports researchers by preparing research materials, documentation, presentations, publications, and grant reports.

  • Collaborates with investigators, research staff, and external partners to facilitate effective communication and successful project execution.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.

  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.

  • Performs related and other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • A minimum of one year of experience with research activities, office administration, program coordination, or a related field.

  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.

  • Experience working in a higher education setting.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Strong ability to organize, track, and share data and information.

  • Strong ability to summarize and communicate in written English text for general and specific audiences (e.g., in emails, newsletters, or other written materials).

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups.

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Additional Position Details:

  • This is a grant-funded position.

  • The incumbent is expected to participate in ongoing training to learn protactile, a tactile language among the DeafBlind community.

  • The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.
