The Position
Join the Platform TEM R&D organization within the TEM Modules Software group, where we develop advanced software modules designed to meet the growing demand for reliable, safe, and efficient imaging and sample handling solutions.
As a Software Technical Lead within the Vacuum Software Team, you will play a key role in the design, development, and technical coordination of software enabling highly accurate and reliable vacuum systems for High-End and Mid-Range TEM products. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, ensuring robust architecture, high software quality, and efficient collaboration between teams and stakeholders.
You will work within an Agile Development Team operating in a SAFe environment, collaborating closely with Software Engineers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Test Automation Engineers and System Architects to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions to our customers.
Development and validation activities are primarily carried out on TEM microscopes and dedicated test benches. Building strong system-level expertise is essential, together with a deep understanding of software and hardware interactions, customer workflows, and use cases. This knowledge is translated into scalable software solutions, robust system integrations, and maintainable architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and guidance across the software development team and distributed sites
Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions for vacuum control and monitoring systems
Drive software design decisions, and technical implementation strategies
Collaborate with Product Owners and stakeholders to translate requirements and user stories into technical solutions
Participate actively in software implementation, code reviews, debugging, and root cause analysis
Coordinate integration activities across software and hardware components
Troubleshoot complex system and integration issues together with colleagues of different competences
Coach and mentor software engineers to support technical growth and knowledge sharing
Contribute to effort estimation, technical planning, and risk assessment activities
Drive continuous improvements in software quality, development processes, and engineering practices
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree with at least 5 years of experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline
Minimum 8 years of experience in software development for complex multidisciplinary hardware/software systems, such as control software or mechatronics products
Proven experience in technical leadership or coordination roles within Agile development environments
Experience with system integration, software architecture, and software lifecycle management
Experience contributing to process improvements and engineering excellence initiatives
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and development methodologies
Proficiency in C++, C#, and experience with modern software development practices
Experience with User Interface frameworks such as MFC, Qt, WPF
Experience or familiarity with COM
Proficiency with Unit Test frameworks such as Nunit, Gtest/Gmock
Familiarity with CI/CD environments, version control systems such as Git, and DevOps practices
Experience with software quality processes, code reviews, and defect management workflows
Knowledge of Agile development tools such as JIRA, TestRail
Familiarity with Model-Based Testing (Axini) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) is considered an advantage
