Overview

We are recruiting for a PACE Transportation Driver to join our growing team.

 

The UHC PACE Transportation Driver is a non-exempt position that is primarily responsible for transporting ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients to and from PACE center and specialty appointments. Additionally, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of UHC owned transportation passenger vehicles. This daily work may be a fixed or flexible schedule as circumstances dictate. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general direction of the Transportation Coordinator. The performance of a mechanical check prior to vehicle operation is expected each day. Work involves assisting passengers as they step on and off the vehicle and also includes assisting wheelchair bound patients. Work involves considerable contact with the public and requires the exercise of tact, judgment, and diplomacy. 

Responsibilities

PERFORMANCE AREA 1: Is responsible for the pickup and delivery of participants to and from the UHC PACE sites and specialty offices in a professional manner exercising ICARE Values.

  • Supports UHC organization by collecting participants who do not have transportation to get to the PACE center visit by bringing them to the center and then returning them safely home.

  • Supports the PACE center's participant schedule by communicating at the start of each work day with Transportation Coordinator on patient pick up schedule.

  • Supports the patients by meeting UHC expectation for patient confidentiality.

  • Responsible for maintaining productivity standards by transporting a specific minimum requirement of participant transports per day as directed by Supervisor.

  • Calls participant prior to pick up to confirm appointments.

  • Supports the efficient transportation of participants to and from the PACE center by planning and determining best routes for that day's schedule.

  • Greets participants at their door and assists the patients with getting to and entering and exiting the vehicle when necessary. Assists participants into and out of UHC facility.

  • Ensures that passengers are safely ready for their trip. This includes visual confirmation that safety equipment is being used.

  • Supports UHC corporate image by making sure that the vehicle is consistently clean both inside and out.

  • Ensures that the UHC vehicle is safe by visually inspecting van prior to leave the UHC premises.

  • Ensures that the UHC vehicle is in excellent working condition by performing routine vehicle maintenance when necessary. Assists in other areas during downtime and in between transports.

  • Communicates any changes or updates about participant condition to the Transportation Coordinator for Interdisciplinary Team Meetings.

PERFORMANCE AREA 2: Driving Performance

  • Safely operates UHC vehicle following all rules of the road to comply with California Vehicle Codes as well as CMS PACE transportation requirements.

  • Annual Motor Vehicle Record checks will be automatically provided to leadership.

  • Adherence to wheelchair securing procedures specific to the lift in the van as per competency requirements. 

  • Provides door through door services for participant to ensure safe delivery and arrival.

PERFORMANCE AREA 3: General Corporate Expectations

  • Attends and actively participates in all meetings (e.g., department meetings, program meetings, employee staff meetings) and other activities as required or assigned
  • Attends workshops/seminars as necessary to increase skills and knowledge to provide effective care, treatment, and/or leadership.
  • Supports the overall needs of the health center by working flexible or extended hours when necessary.
  • Supports the needs of the health center by traveling to other UHC clinics when staffing needs dictate the need for licensed personnel.
  • Demonstrates awareness of, and compliance with organizational mission and objective of UHC to provide health care access and support services for all members of the community.
  • Supports their own staff development by completing the required hours of continuing education each year as well as new certifications as required.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally either verbally or in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respect for information regarding patients and other team members; abides by UHC Rules of Confidentiality and general HIPAA regulations regarding privacy.
  • Displays a positive, professional and respectful demeanor at all times toward employees, peers, professional contacts, and patients served, maintaining a professional appearance and positive image for the health centers.
  • Contributes to the team by promoting positive staff interaction, maintains open communication with other programs/departments.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • High School Graduate or GED.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must possess CPR and First Aid Certificate

  • Must possess a valid CA driver's license 

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in driving.

  • Clean DMV record.

  • Evidence of auto insurance.

SKILLS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

  • Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients and providers of differing backgrounds; team player

  • Customer-service oriented

  • Flexibility and dependability

  • Demonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgment

  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks

  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

The hourly wage range that UHC reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire starts at $22.00 an hour. Our salaries are dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.
