POSITION TITLE: Medical Director                                           REPORTS TO: Sr. Director of Prevention Services

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Medical Director provides psychiatric and medical consultation, assessment, training, and treatment recommendations for the START clinical team, therapeutic support staff, community providers, and individuals receiving START services. The position collaborates with treating physicians and hospitals, supports multidisciplinary assessment and treatment planning, reviews health needs, contributes to data analysis, and participates in ongoing START network learning.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Delivery

•  Provides consultation and training to members of the clinical team and therapeutic supports team.
•  Provides onsite consultation and treatment as needed for guests receiving resource center services and therapeutic in-home coaching services.
•  Reviews health needs, completes assessments, provides recommendations, and follows up as appropriate.

Care Coordination & Collaboration

•  Collaborates with the primary treating physicians of individuals supported by START and provides clinical recommendations.
•  Consults with psychiatric hospitals regarding treatment of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental health needs and provides recommendations.
•  Participates in recurring team meetings as needed and contributes medical and psychiatric recommendations.

Monitoring Progress & Responding to Client Needs

•  Supports multidisciplinary review of complex clinical and health needs and recommends appropriate follow-up.
•  Assists with the collection of MEDS assessment data and analyzes the data with START team members.
•  Uses assessment findings, treatment response, team input, and available data to inform recommendations.

Client Engagement & Support

•  Provides consultation and treatment recommendations that are responsive to the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and co-occurring mental health needs.
•  Supports coordinated, person-centered treatment planning across START, medical, psychiatric, resource center, and in-home services.
•  Participates in monthly Clinical Education Team meetings, supporting the Clinical Director with training, multidisciplinary assessment, recommendations, and treatment planning.

Documentation & Compliance

•  Documents assessments, consultations, recommendations, treatment, and follow-up in accordance with applicable professional and program requirements.
•  Maintains current professional licensure and practices within the scope of the contract and applicable clinical standards.
•  Participates in regular START network learning opportunities, including quarterly Medical Director Practice Group sessions.
•  Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

•  M.D., D.O., or APRN with a specialty in psychiatry and current licensure to practice in the state.
•  Extensive experience treating individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
•  Experience addressing co-occurring mental health and medical needs and collaborating with multidisciplinary providers.
•  Ability to provide consultation, training, assessment, recommendations, and follow-up in START service settings.

Driver Level: Level 3 - Occasional driving for meetings, training, or non-routine sites.

Position Flexibility: Hybrid - This position follows a hybrid work model, incorporating both onsite and remote work.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Sitting for extended periods of time.

* Lifting/carrying up to thirty to fifty (30-50) pounds
