Location: Luton
Hours: 5,5,4 12 hours, nights
Salary: Up to £86,053 (Inc. Shift pay, DM Pay plus approval pay)
UKCAA Licence A320 fam (ideally with PW, although training can be provided) Right to Work in the UK Management experience
Job Purpose
The Duty Manager is a pivotal operational leader responsible for leading and coordinating day-to-day line maintenance operations during their duty period, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of maintenance activities in accordance with regulatory, company, and customer requirements. The role provides operational leadership to shift personnel, supports operational performance and aircraft serviceability, and promotes a strong safety, customer service, and team-focused culture in his/her based line station.
Job Accountabilities
Leadership

Deputise for the Station Manager when required and assume the responsibilities outlined within the Station Manager Job Description.

Act as the operational lead during the duty period, taking accountability for shift safety, operational performance and service delivery.
-
Lead and supervise shift operations to ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company and customer requirements.
-
Make sound operational decisions to support aircraft serviceability, operational performance and customer expectations.
-
Ensure effective communication and coordination across operational teams, customers, Planning and Logistics functions, and management.
-
Support operational meetings, customer visits, audits, investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
-
Support station administrative duties and operational projects as assigned by the Station Manager.
-
Review and approve temporary labour timesheets and overtime requests where authorised.
-
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, PPE compliance, professionalism and workplace discipline.
-
Ensure effective shift handovers through accurate written and verbal communication, maintaining clear operational records.
-
Promote a positive and proactive safety culture, encouraging hazard identification and occurrence reporting.
Operational Accountabilities
-
Manage and coordinate daily line maintenance activities in line with operational priorities, customer requirements and available resources.
-
Ensure appropriate manpower, tooling, materials, equipment and aircraft ground time are available to support planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
-
Monitor aircraft technical status and support defect reduction initiatives in collaboration with customer CAMO and Maintenance Control teams.
-
Review staffing levels, rosters, leave, sickness and training requirements a minimum of 14 days in advance to maintain operational coverage and capability.
-
Ensure all staff members are appropriately briefed at the start of each shift and fully understand their responsibilities, work assignments and associated safety controls.

Maintain accurate operational reporting and documentation, including:

Production plans
-
Shift handovers
-
Storm Aviation and customer ERP systems
-
Daily reports
-
Delay reporting
-
AOG aircraft updates
-
Verification of all tooling and equipment returns at the close of each shift

Customer daily reporting requirements, as directed

Perform B1 Engineer duties when required and assume the full responsibilities detailed within the B1 Engineer Job Description.
Staff Management and Development

Lead, motivate and support team members to achieve operational, safety and company objectives.

Conduct shift briefings to communicate operational priorities, task allocations, safety considerations and customer requirements.
-
Manage individual performance and development for assigned staff through objective setting, coaching, performance reviews and ongoing feedback.

Support employee training, competency development and succession planning activities.
-
Assist with the onboarding and mentoring of new employees.
-
Foster a professional, collaborative and accountable team environment.
Regulatory and Compliance Requirements
-
Ensure all staff within the shift operate in full compliance with applicable aviation regulations, Part-145 requirements, company procedures, customer requirements and health and safety standards.

Conduct dynamic risk assessments and ensure operational and safety risks are appropriately managed and controlled.
-
Escalate safety concerns, operational risks and manpower shortages to the Station Manager in a timely manner.
-
Support Safety Management System (SMS) activities, including investigations, reporting, corrective actions and safety meetings.
-
Ensure all mandatory technical, operational and safety communications are reviewed, acknowledged and complied with by shift personnel.
Qualifications & Education
-
Recognised apprenticeship within the aircraft industry or a similar relevant discipline.
-
UK CAA Part-66 Licence, B1 or B2, and a Category C Licence with at least two aircraft types on the company’s approval.
Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years’ management experience within a Part-145 base maintenance environment, preferably managing other Licensed Engineers.

Previous supervisory experience within base maintenance.
-
Hands-on experience certifying aircraft with a Part-66 licence and appropriate company authorisation.
-
Full understanding of regulatory requirements relating to Part-145.
-
Proven leadership and people management skills.
-
Experience managing departmental Health & Safety and Compliance requirements.

Completed IOSH Managing Safely course.
Training & Knowledge

Strong technical aviation experience with demonstrable knowledge of:

The limitations of technical data and their operational impact
