SPECIAL KIDS IS A NON-PROFIT CHRISTIAN THERAPY AND NURSING CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.   

We are licensed professionals, but first we are Christ followers with a mission to “Serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children.” Special Kids offers professional services to children ages birth months through 21 years. Children Activity Leaders at Special Kids’ Kleinau Nursing Center serve medically fragile children who need skilled nursing care, in collaboration with RN's (Registered Nurses). Part-time positions available, 20-29 hours per week.  No evenings, weekends or company-recognized holidays.


Summary

An enthusiastic and fun individual who wants to organize and direct recreational activities for children in the Skilled Nursing program and support patients in an outpatient clinic setting by performing the following duties. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans, designs and implements recreational activities for patients that meet their needs and interests and assists with the activities. 
  • Plans, designs and implements structured group & Bible activities for patients and assists with the activities. 
  • Supports patients with behavioral, social, and developmental needs.
  • Assists with maintaining a safe, structured, and positive environment.
  • Evaluates responsiveness to activities and adjusts as needed. 
  • Develops and maintains a constructive and ongoing rapport with children and parents. 
  • Follows individualized patient care plans and directions by nurse and therapists.
  • Works cooperatively with nurses, therapists, and administrators.
  • Works closely with Therapy team to conduct patient fun days and events (e.g. water week, dress up days, pumpkin decorating contests, etc.)
  • Assists (and plans assigned) outings, special guest/volunteer visits, and special events.
  • Leads group Bible study and/or prayer as assigned. 
  • Maintains a clean and tidy room. Cleans and sanitizes equipment and toys consistent with health and safety standards. 
  • Reports all changes or observations of children’s condition to nurse.
  • Assists with transfers and ambulation of children as needed. 
  • Assists with personal care needs including assistance with diaper changes/toileting, providing hygiene or grooming assistance, repositioning, and making beds as needed. 
  • Dons/Doffs all assistive equipment and devices as needed.
  • Assists children during meal and nap times. 
  • Participates in department quality improvement activities including, but not limited to, departmental training, routine staff meetings, and routine one-to-one meetings. 
  • Performs other duties related to supporting patients as assigned.

Education and/or Experience 

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood, child development, or related field preferred. Pediatric experience preferred. Work experience in similar environment is preferred. 


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web-based applications such as electronic medical records.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider with skills testing certification is required.
