Description
Overview
LMI is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join the team supporting IronGate, a mission-ready data acquisition and transfer platform built for complex federal environments. It enables agencies to securely acquire commercial data and bring it into government networks through a self-service UI portal or direct-to-network push with full visibility, governance, and compliance at every step. You’ll work across the stack—from Angular and Reactr-based UI workflows to Node/Express APIs and PostgreSQL data models—helping us deliver secure, scalable capabilities that support cyber threat detection, asset protection, and operational decision-making.
You’ll collaborate closely with product owners, designers, DevSecOps, and fellow engineers to iterate quickly on features, modernize existing components, and shape the future architecture as we incorporate technologies like Spark, Hudi, Elasticsearch, and Kong. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building and operating production systems, not just prototypes. An active Secret security clearance is required.
LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.
Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors—helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain full-stack features for IronGate using Angular (v21+), TypeScript, Node.js, and Express, spanning UI workflows, API development, and data persistence.
- Design and develop new and existing application features in React, ensuring consistency and interoperability with Angular-based components where required.
- Develop and document RESTful APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger, supporting secure, well-structured services consumed by IronGate’s front end and external integrations.
- Design and optimize data models in PostgreSQL (AWS RDS), with attention to indexing, query performance, and reliability in IL5/IL6-style environments.
- Work within a Kubernetes-based architecture, helping design, containerize, deploy, and operate backend services and cron-style job schedulers.
- Enhance frontend UX using Angular, React, and PrimeNG, building intuitive, responsive, and reusable components tailored to mission users and their workflows.
- Support data integration flows using Airbyte and related extract/load pipelines to bring in asset, threat, and operational data from external sources.
- Collaborate on security and resilience, integrating services with AWS GuardDuty malware protection and following secure coding and DevSecOps best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and design sessions, shaping API contracts, data schemas, and modular architectures that are testable, maintainable, and scalable.
- Embrace AI-driven development practices, helping define guardrails, validation layers, and test coverage to keep AI-assisted code safe and production-ready.
- Support automated testing across the stack (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and contribute to CI/CD pipelines for reliable, repeatable deployments.
- Troubleshoot and optimize—diagnose bugs, address performance bottlenecks, and help ensure high availability and observability in containerized environments.
- Contribute to future architecture evolution, providing input as we adopt technologies like Apache Spark, Apache Hudi, Elasticsearch, Kong, and Python-based APIs (FastAPI/Flask).
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
- 6+ years of relevant software engineering experience, with demonstrated full stack responsibilities in production environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in full stack development with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks.
- Proven experience developing applications in React, including building and maintaining production React-based frontends.
Strong frontend skills:
- Experience with Angular (or comparable modern front-end framework) and TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience building React applications (hooks, component composition, state management, routing).
- Solid grasp of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and component-based UI patterns.
- Experience with UI libraries such as PrimeNG or similar.
Strong backend skills:
- Node.js and Express.js for building RESTful APIs.
- Experience designing and consuming OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
- Hands-on work with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), including SQL, indexing, and query optimization.
- Experience deploying and operating services in Kubernetes and working with containerized applications (Docker, Helm, etc.).
- Familiarity with job scheduling (cron-style schedulers) and event-driven or batch processing patterns.
- Experience using AI-enabled development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, code assistants) to rapidly ship software, with an understanding of how to validate and harden AI-generated code.
- Experience with testing tools across the stack (e.g., Jest, Vitest, Cypress, Playwright, or similar) and a track record of building automated validation and end-to-end testing into delivery.
- Familiarity with secure software development practices, including code scanning, dependency management, and security testing.
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar) and Git-based workflows.
- Comfortable with Agile/Lean, rapid delivery cycles, and direct user feedback loops.
- Active Secret security clearance required.
Bonus Points For
- Hands-on work in secure government environments (DoD, IL5+, FedRAMP) or mission systems.
- Experience integrating or operating AWS services, including RDS, S3, and GuardDuty.
- Exposure to data engineering or analytics stacks such as Apache Spark, Apache Hudi, and Elasticsearch.
- Experience with API gateways (e.g., Kong) and service mesh / zero-trust patterns.
- Background in geospatial applications, mapping, or spatial analytics.
- Certifications such as Security+, AWS Developer/Architect, or Kubernetes-related certifications.
- Prior experience in startup or rapid-growth teams, or in building greenfield platforms within larger organizations.
