Job Description:

The Opportunity

Join Hitachi Energy's HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) business and play a leading role in delivering some of the world's most complex and innovative energy infrastructure projects.

As a Site Commissioning Manager, you will be responsible for leading all site commissioning activities across major HVDC projects, ensuring the safe, efficient, and successful energisation of critical power transmission systems. You will act as the key commissioning authority on site, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing customer interfaces, and driving project execution from preparation through to final handover.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Germany's energy transition while working on landmark international projects that support the integration of renewable energy and strengthen power networks worldwide.

The role offers significant international exposure, with approximately 75% global travel and long-term site assignments typically ranging from 6 to 12 months. When not deployed on-site, flexible working arrangements are available.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Lead and manage all on-site commissioning activities for major HVDC and power transmission projects.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning strategies, schedules, test procedures, and resource plans.
  • Take ownership of commissioning scope from installation completion through energisation, system testing, and final project handover.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary commissioning teams, subcontractors, vendors, and customer representatives on-site.
  • Ensure full compliance with Hitachi Energy, local regulatory, customer, and project-specific HSE requirements.
  • Drive commissioning progress while proactively identifying, mitigating, and resolving technical and operational challenges.
  • Manage commissioning budgets, resource planning, and site execution performance.
  • Organise and chair commissioning meetings with customers, project stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Oversee system testing, functional verification, integrated site acceptance testing (SAT), and performance testing activities.
  • Ensure all commissioning documentation, red-line mark-ups, reports, punch lists, and final records are completed to the highest standards.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), design reviews, lessons learned workshops, and project risk management activities.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for commissioning-related matters throughout project execution.

Your Background

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience leading commissioning activities within high-voltage transmission, substations, HVDC, FACTS, power generation, or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Proven experience managing commissioning teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders in a complex project environment.
  • Strong understanding of protection & control systems, substation automation, high-voltage equipment, and power system commissioning practices.
  • Previous HVDC or FACTS commissioning experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships and represent commissioning activities at senior stakeholder level.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience working in international and multicultural environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for extended site assignments (up to 75%).
  • Fluent English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • German language skills are advantageous but not essential.
  • Valid EU passport and eligibility to work across Europe.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on some of the world's largest and most advanced HVDC projects.
  • International project exposure and career development opportunities.
  • Flexible working arrangements when not assigned to site.
  • Collaborative and inclusive global work environment.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • The chance to play a direct role in enabling the global energy transition.
