POSITION OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding the multi-spindle automatic screw machines in our machine shop, including Acme-Gridley and Greenlee 6- and 8-spindle bar machines. This role keeps production equipment running safely, accurately, and efficiently by diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical problems, performing preventive maintenance, and completing major machine rebuilds. The ideal candidate is a skilled mechanical troubleshooter who takes pride in precision work and keeping equipment in top condition.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Troubleshooting and Repair

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and electrical failures on Acme-Gridley and Greenlee 6- and 8-spindle automatic screw machines.

• Identify root causes of machine breakdowns, part quality problems, and recurring failures, and implement lasting corrective actions.

• Repair or replace components including spindles, spindle bearings, collets and feed fingers, clutches, brakes, gears, cams, cam rolls, slides, and drive belts.

• Troubleshoot and correct indexing, spindle carrier lockup, timing, feed and chucking, and cross slide and end tool slide problems.

• Repair and adjust machine attachments such as threading, cross drilling, pick-off, and cutoff attachments.

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.

Machine Rebuilds

• Disassemble, inspect, rebuild, and reassemble multi-spindle screw machines and major assemblies, including spindle carriers, headstocks, indexing mechanisms, and slide assemblies.

• Measure wear and determine whether components can be reconditioned or must be replaced.

• Restore machine alignment, clearances, bearing preload, and timing to manufacturer specifications.

• Fabricate or machine replacement parts using manual lathes, mills, and grinders when parts are obsolete or unavailable.

• Test run rebuilt machines and work with set-up and quality personnel to confirm parts meet specifications.

Preventive Maintenance

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including lubrication, inspection, adjustment, and replacement of wear components.

• Maintain coolant, oil, and lubrication systems, including filters, pumps, and chip conveyors.

• Recommend improvements to the preventive maintenance program based on equipment history and failure trends.

Electrical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic Systems

• Troubleshoot and repair basic industrial electrical systems, including three-phase motors, motor starters, contactors, relays, limit switches, and control circuits.

• Repair hydraulic and pneumatic components such as pumps, valves, cylinders, regulators, hoses, and fittings.

• Maintain bar feed and stock support equipment.

Documentation and Parts

• Document repairs, rebuilds, preventive maintenance, and parts used in the maintenance tracking system.

• Identify, source, and request replacement parts, and help maintain an inventory of critical spare parts.

Safety

• Follow all lockout/tagout procedures and company safety regulations when servicing equipment.

• Safely rig and move heavy machine components using overhead cranes, hoists, and forklifts.

• Keep the maintenance area, tools, and equipment clean and organized.
