Description

Description

Turn everyday moments into stories that matter.

The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) is seeking a creative Videographer & Visual Storyteller to capture the people, programs, and experiences that bring our mission to life. Through compelling video and photography, you’ll help people discover opportunities at the Y and see the difference we make together.

One day, you might capture the energy of a pickleball game, film a personal trainer helping someone build strength, or photograph preschoolers exploring their creativity. Another, you might interview a member about a personal milestone or document volunteers helping neighbors access nutritious food. Your work will show the many ways the Y helps our community thrive.

Working with the Marketing team, you’ll develop story ideas, plan shoots, conduct interviews, and turn footage into polished content. Projects will include short social media videos, program highlights, testimonials, and longer mission-focused stories, along with photography and supporting copy for our website, email, advertising, and other channels.

You May Be the Right Fit If…

  • You have an eye for a great shot and know how to turn everyday moments into engaging stories.
  • You’re comfortable approaching new people and helping them feel at ease in front of a camera.
  • You understand what makes social media video effective, including strong openings, thoughtful pacing, captions, and a clear message.
  • You follow emerging trends and use good judgment about what fits the Y’s voice and audience.
  • You enjoy collaborating, welcome feedback, and can independently carry a project from idea through final edit.
  • You understand the care involved in representing a trusted, family-friendly organization and sharing people’s stories respectfully.

What You’ll Do:

  • Capture high-quality video, photography, and audio across SAY branches, programs, and events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to identify stories and coordinate shoots with staff and participants.
  • Conduct interviews with members, staff, volunteers, and donors.
  • Edit content for different audiences and channels, following YMCA brand guidelines and incorporating captions and accessibility considerations.
  • Write supporting copy and coordinate with the Marketing team to prepare and publish approved content.
  • Manage project deadlines, incorporate feedback, and keep photo and video assets organized.
  • Follow YMCA policies for media consent, youth protection, and privacy.

Schedule

This part-time position works 20–25 hours per week, primarily on-site at Association Services, with photography and video assignments at any SAY branch, program location, or event. Remote flexibility may be available for the right candidate when not attending programs and events. A flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, and the ability to travel independently between locations are required.

Pay & Part-Time Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 – $32.00 per hour. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Part-time team members enjoy valuable YMCA benefits, including:

  • Free YMCA individual membership
  • Discounted YMCA family membership
  • 12% YMCA Retirement Fund contribution upon eligibility
  • Paid training and professional development
  • Opportunities for advancement within the YMCA

At the Summit Area YMCA, we are committed to equal opportunity employment regardless of gender, age, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation. Our main purpose is to strengthen the community. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone can reach their full potential, and we strive to live our cause with purpose every day. No matter who you are or where you’re from, we believe that we’re stronger when we come together.

Requirements

  • Two years of hands-on experience in video production, editing, and visual storytelling preferred. Candidates with other relevant experience supported by a strong portfolio will also be considered, including freelance, internship, and substantial project-based work.
  • A portfolio demonstrating video production, editing, and visual storytelling skills is required. Include a link in your resume or cover letter and identify your role in creating each work sample.
  • Demonstrated ability to capture high-quality video, photography, and audio, with an understanding of composition, lighting, and sound.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or comparable video editing software. Familiarity with After Effects and Photoshop is a plus.
  • Ability to shape footage and interviews into clear, engaging stories for different audiences.
  • Working knowledge of social media content formats and publishing tools, including preparing and posting content for platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to coordinate with staff and help participants feel comfortable on camera.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage assigned projects, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback.
  • Working knowledge of digital asset management and media optimization, including file organization and naming, photo and video resizing and compression, and selection of appropriate file formats and export settings for different platforms while maintaining quality.
  • Ability to work independently within an established creative direction and YMCA brand guidelines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to capture Y programs and events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to travel independently between Summit Area YMCA branches and program locations.
