Baptist Health is hiring a HIM Specialist to join our Health Information Management team for Baptist Metro Square Jacksonville, FL. This is a full-time day shift opportunity.

The Health Information Management team supports the accuracy, accessibility, privacy, and integrity of patient health information. The HIM Specialist performs a variety of functions, including Release of Information (ROI) to ensure patient information is processed accurately and timely while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.

HIM Specialist Job Responsibilities:

• Process requests for medical information from patients and continued-care requestors, ensuring appropriate authorization and adherence to HIPAA guidelines.
• Ensure timely and accurate access to medical information while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Retrieve, prepare, and scan medical information into the electronic medical record.
• Review scanned documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, legibility, and data integrity.
• Maintain accurate records and follow established Health Information Management policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

HIM Specialist Experience:

• 1–2 years of customer service experience (Required)
• 1–2 years of clerical experience (Required)
• Experience in Health Information Management, medical records, or release of information Preferred)

HIM Specialist Education & Credential Requirements:

• High School Diploma (Required)
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) (Preferred)
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) (Preferred)
• Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P) (Preferred)
• Certified Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP) (Preferred)
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) (Preferred)
• Certified Health Document Specialist (CHDS) (Preferred)
• Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) (Preferred)
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) (Preferred)
• Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) (Preferred)

This role will perform a variety of tasks: In ROI processing requests for medical information for patient and continued care requestors with proper authorization by consistently following HIPAA guidelines for timely access; In Scanning retrieving, prepping, and scanning medical information into the electronic medical record, and ensuring data integrity of the scanned documents; In Deficiency Tracking reviewing all appropriate documents in ED and outpatient encounters for physician completion in the electronic medical record per regulatory guidelines.
