Are you an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a passion for leadership, clinical excellence and developing others?

At The Vet Office, we're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Head Veterinary Nurse to join a progressive, modern small animal veterinary practice in Morden, South London.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident RVN who is ready to take ownership of a nursing team, inspire colleagues and play a key role in delivering outstanding standards of veterinary care.

You'll have the opportunity to combine hands-on clinical nursing with team leadership, mentoring and professional development.

If you're looking for a role where your ideas are valued, your leadership makes a difference and your career can continue to grow, we'd love to hear from you!

The Role

As Head Veterinary Nurse, you'll play a central role in supporting and developing the nursing team while maintaining exceptional clinical standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, motivating and supporting a team of veterinary nurses and nursing assistants.
  • Mentoring RVNs, student veterinary nurses and veterinary care assistants.
  • Promoting high standards of patient care, clinical excellence and animal welfare.
  • Supporting surgical procedures, anaesthesia, inpatient care and clinical nursing.
  • Encouraging teamwork, effective communication and a positive workplace culture.
  • Helping to improve nursing protocols and clinical processes.
  • Identifying training opportunities and supporting the professional development of your team.
  • Working closely with veterinary surgeons and practice management.

Salary & Benefits

Competitive salary:  £42,000 per year, depending on experience.

In addition, you'll enjoy an attractive benefits package designed to support both your professional and personal wellbeing.

  • Performance rewards and employee recognition schemes.
  • Generous CPD allowance.
  • Leadership training and management development opportunities.
  • 20 days of annual leave plus UK bank holidays.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity benefits.
  • Income protection.
  • Electric vehicle scheme.
  • Employee discounts and rewards.
  • Discounted veterinary services.
  • Health and wellbeing support.
  • Opportunities for long-term career progression.

Working Schedule

  • 4 working days per week, with 9-hour shifts.
  • Average working week of approximately 40 hours, including rota commitments.
  • Weekend rota: 1 in 4 weekends.
  • Participation in the rotational night-duty schedule.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in hearing from veterinary nurses who are passionate about both clinical care and people development.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Qualification as a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).
  • Current RCVS registration or eligibility to register.
  • Strong clinical experience in small animal practice.
  • Previous leadership or mentoring experience, or the ambition to progress into a management role.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence in making decisions and supporting colleagues.
  • A proactive, positive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for developing nursing teams and maintaining high clinical standards.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This isn't just another nursing position.

It's a chance to step into a meaningful leadership role, influence clinical standards and help create an environment where veterinary professionals feel supported, motivated and empowered.

You'll enjoy the balance of working clinically while developing your leadership abilities, with access to continued training and opportunities to grow professionally.
